I just got a young female glider for my male so he could have a companion since he's alone. I wasn't aware that my new female would need to be 6-7 mon. old before I introduce them. So, right now I have her in a fairly large hamster/bird cage. This is fine for her as of right now, but for the next months I am going to need to get her a bigger cage. I don't want to spend A LOT of money since she is only going to spend roughly 6 months in it. Does anyone know a place where I could order a decent 24x24x36 cage at a reasonable price. I am a college student so I really can't spend 200.00 like a lot of places ask. I looked at the links page on how to make a cage, but I don't know if I have the tools and brain to make one myself.

Check out ebay. It is where I have bought both of my cages. I wish I had a link for you but I'm sure someone can offer one up.

You could try a reptarium...

Here is the link to LLLReptile.com

I don't like them as permanent cages but they make great temporary/travel cages!

A 3' Reptarium at Sam's Club is like $40 after tax and shipping. I have a 6' one and LOVE IT.

Go to Klubertanz.com and get a cage for $115 shipped...it's 2X2X5' and in my opinion, is better than anything I've seen in Pet Smart or on ebay. These cages are designed for gliders, not birds. They have a grid, as opposed to 'prison type' bars. Gliders jump from side to side, and need a grid. These cages have pull out trays for easy cleaning and provide adequate space for two gliders. Personally, I believe gliders need taller cages than 3 feet. That's just my opinion, tho.

How do you clean up a reptarium? Do you have liner on the bottom?

Take everything you have in the rep out- pull the mesh off the frame & toss it in the washer. Then I wipe the frame down with a clorox wipe. I seriously hate cleaning the rep- yeah it's easy but you have to take everything out and it has to be washed often since there's no tray & the fabric soaks up all the pee.

Don't dry it- just let it air dry, it's fast anyway! Drying makes them shrink a little- trust me

I don't have a liner but I had a cage stand from something else that the rep fits into perfectly... it has a grate & a drop pan so anything (pee, tiny food bits, etc) that goes through the mesh lands in the pan. I just got lucky with that one. Make sure you at least put a towel under the rep to catch stuff!

I think they're a pain but at the same time they're a necessary evil

I use a piece of fleece in the bottom. That way I can take it out and wash it.

Any glider I've used fleece on the bottom of the cage with- insists on sleeping under it all curled up like a little snausage in their new blanky

I guess if you cut the fleece a little bit bigger than the bottom of the cage & put the frame in over the fleece it would keep it in place...

Good idea Sugee- I might have to switch to that method!

I put it under the frame so they can't crawl under to sleep.

Thanks for the advice. I found a reptarium and a liner for it at Sams. One more quick question though. If the walls are all mesh, how to you decorate the cage? Right now, it my first cage I have branches and many hanging things and I don't see how you could do that with this type of cage. What do your gliders like?

I have the same issue, I'm wondering how to hang things and if it's worth the trouble... I would love a 6 ft cage but I also love to have tons of things in the acge and hanging all over and i think they do to...

If you guys look around in housing & accessories you'll find ideas people have come up with for hanging things in the reps. Or you could do a search.

I have to say I'm finding those keychain rings very handy for hanging pouches. I was using zipties but Leyna suggested the rings & boy I'm glad I listened to her! I just slide them over the bars & then I have something to hook pouches and things on to.

But do a search- I know there's a few posts on hanging a wheel, food stations & hanging a water bottle... It wasn't that long ago- towards the end of September.
