I have a weird problem that just came up a couple days (nights) ago. I have a sweety of a boy that bonded right away and loves to ride on my back and shoulder. ( He is even polite enough to jump back on top of his cage, if handy, to poop before jumping back on me) but the last 2 nights during tent time when he is running from shoulder to shoulder he stops and bites my ear! Not really hard or mean, but enough to freak me out. Now one of my girls thinks it is funny and is trying it too. I have long hair, so I always put it up in a ponytail so they do not get tangled up. Any suggestions on how to get them to stop? I have another older girl that we are having a hard time bonding with, and if I jump I will scare her.

First question that of course crosses my mind is do you wear any type of ear rings, if so, they are probably biting at that, if not, they could just be playing with you, or giving you a love nip, trying to mark you as gliders also have scent glands in their mouth. Or they may not like the smell of your ears!
Do you dab any parfume behind your ears?

Next time just give a psst or a firm no and move them away from your ear, they will eventually get the idea that nibbling your ear is a no no.

Lily is obsessed with putting her lil nose in my ear and licking ...I tend to think it's kisses .

Mine like my face, don't know the concept behind that maybe due to what someone said in a post about the oils on your face ?

No earrings or perfume, maybe my ears just smell good haha. I am glad it is not just my gliders with an ear fettish. It is cute as long as it is not a hard bite. I will get used to it just like the face "huggs" My daughter calles them "face attacks" they all love to do that, they wait til we look up then dive on. The only problem is with my boy peeling out on my forehead for a big jump ouch! :-)

Yes this tends to hurt a little but we have noticed that after grooming each other in the evening when they wake up they make the rounds with the human family members....and the grooming starts with the back of the neck at the hairline and then they progress to the ears with the chirping and purring in the ear along with licks and nips. We find it quite funny that the babies seem to love to groom my hubby moreso than me so I sit and laugh!

in the tent Ukyo likes to groom Bill's forehead... Happosai likes to groom my face... and Akane will try to nip at my nose every so often... so far no facial grooming patterns noticed with Ryoga but he's the explorer of the boys and Akane is that from the girls but she is also more bonded since we've had her longer.

My two will bite our ears too! It took me the longest time to get used to it. They say when they bite you not to jump, not so easy when it is your ears!LOL You can see when they are going to bite your fingers..~Allison

My SweetPea licks my arms, neck, fingers....kind of a random thing. Maybe tasting me to make sure I'm still me!

I have recently had such an experience...my new 6 month old girl that I recently picked up was having a good time during our tent time one evening and she started playing with my hair which was fine but then she got up into my hair a little above my hairline and chewed about a quarter size patch out of my head before I could get her off! Talk about trying not to flinch! I was bleeding quite badly and am now sort of afraid to have more tent time! What is up with that?! I don't know why she did that! Could it be that my shampoo is too flowery smelling?!

Suki loves biting my ear lobes! It hurts, ouch! I just try to distract her with my finger but she'll go for it again a second later. I don't wear earrings or anything either when it happens. I guess it's just a love bite but she doesn't do it anywhere else but there. Maybe gliders think the ear is food or something because it's a different texture (cartilidge [sp?]).
