I wanted to post some pics of my incognito cage. I will describe each pic, as there r 8 of them. Its not finished yet. I designed it and my Dad made it for me. Our intention was to have a large cage that could be "incognito" in my apt, as my landlord really doesnt like pets. In these pics, the doors and such arent hinged on yet so I just proped them up.

I would like to have my own online store. So I'm wondering, would any of you be intrested in custom cages? I can make the with our without the wood frame, as this cage we made just slides in the wood holder. They can also be any size.

This isnt an ad for my cage. More or a less an interest survey so see if its worth me offering them in my store.
What do you all think?

Please dont copy my cage

This is the last pic, it shows a front/ side view of the cage w/ the door open. teh cage has a shelf for them to sit on.

so anyway thats my new cage, its not finished yet and in the pics it still doesnt have the litter tray we're making to slide under it. And of course its not furnished yet

Love, love, love it. What a great job you did. I can really see a use for it, good luck. It would be great if you decorated the front too.

You did a fantastic job, and yes... this is something that I would consider buying.
a couple of add-ons I would like to see...
1. a small light at the top and maybe one on the side.
2. a drawer or two on the bottom for storage of items
3. maybe some slats or something on the side to aid airflow if the door is shut.
4. Un-finished kits for those that would like to decorate their own (if you did the store thing)
5. wood type choice... personally, I don't care for dark woods for example

Other than the ideas I had... I think its something that I would buy, only I have a fairly large cage, so it would have to be a custom made one or something.

You are a superb designer of this cage. I think that you should definately offer this cage in your inventory. to you for the wonderful idea. I would definatly be interested in something like that.

It's a fabulous cage! The biggest question with regard to interest in purchasing, however, is what's it cost?

After cost of materials, how much is the time for construction worth to you?

As a (very exaggerated) example, I can say I'd be very interested in one of these cages for $5. I would not be very interested at all for $1000.

Thank u all for ur input. Queen duck, I thought it would be cool if i could do woodburning and maybe put some gliders or just deco on the front, but I dont know how do do it well. I could paint it, but personally I dont like painted wood, but for others It would be ok.

mgoodman, I liked ur idea for the air slots and the light. I'm thinking how i can make that part of it work, but shoulnt be hard.
drawers at the bottom will be easy, and unfinished kits I cant forsee as being a problem.

As for wood, what did you have in mind. My dad did this wood part at his company. His company makes the doors and such for kitchens and bathrooms. For example, if you know what home depot is, his company sells their doors to them and then they make the setup you see in the store.

My cage is made of oak, which means its really heavy. Oak is a good wood, its my favorite. However if u have to haul it up stairs or move a lot, I may suggest a lighter wood.

I would have to check to see what all types are available.
I know they use several different ones, though.

Thank you all for your input. I will do some more research. I'm excited about my store!

Coffeestain, now im getting input, I know how much the wire and such was and I know about what the custom cages go for at klubertanz for something that size. I'd like to do this as a hobby, not a living, so I would do it at minimal profit.

The biggest problem I see now is shipping, which will require yet more research on my part..and of course I can do the cage for cheaper in shipping and everything w/ out the wood frame if ppl dont like wood, I would put a litter pan and post legs on the cage.

I've had lots of positive feedback on this cage, so i'm still in my "reseach" phase of my store. I hope it works out for me.

as for wood -- I like mahogany (sp?), aspen, and a light ash over oak or anything else.
Some nice castors on the bottom would help with the moving of it across carpet or floors, weight was never a concern for me though.
The lights would just be small little ones, i wouldn't see that as being an issue. The slats were just a thought to aid in airflow and would add a nice touch too.
you did a great job.

I think this cage is fantastic! You and your dad did a terrific job! I would definitely consider buying one myself. I do have one concern and I don`t mean to burst any bubbles lol, I`m just curious about the urine guard at the bottom of the cage. It`s hard to tell from the picture but it looks like it is inside of the cage and I`m wondering if they can get cut on the metal or even wedged in between the guard and the cage? I just wanted to point this out to you just in case , like I said, it`s hard to tell from the picture. Please keep us posted! I`d like to know the cost of one of these brilliant ideas!

Denise ur right. My dad placed them in there when he was working on teh outside, and truthfully I hadnt thought of it when I did the pics, I was worried about the doors being crooked, lol since I havent hinged them on yet. I will post pics when I get it completed, the hinged doors, the urine guards finished, and also the bottom tray, as its hard to explain that bc its not even made yet, hence the empty space u see under the cage....but thanks denise, I had not paid much attention to that detail when I posted these pics.

mgoodman, I think he works w/ ash some, i know oak, I dont knwo about aspen or mohagany...I'll check into it tonight.

Ooooo! My eyes are bugging! Lol VERY nice! I'd definitely consider buying one---LOL If you have a landlord not too fond of animals, you could always have a huge custom cage made, and set it up as an entertainment set! J.K. you'd probably not get away with it. But it's very nice! I'd love to get a huuuge one!

Some things I really like about your cage:
1.)There seem to be a lot of different doors and screens for good air circulation.
2.)It looks very professional, and not at all like a cage! your relatives wouldn't have a clue!
3.)The fact that it has a urine guard (but would possibly a plastic small one around the outide of the cage be better? Just a thought )
4.)The nice little shelves inside the actual cage.
5.)The wonderful idea of woodburning pictures/designs onto the front---I can picture it and it would be marvelous!!
6.)the idea of having storage drawers attached--I have boxes all over my room with glider things that are waiting for their own special place. Lol, good ideas!

All in all an awesome job! LOL I'm hooked! Shipping might be a problem though.
I personally love wood, and think this looks very classy for a cage! And to have different choices for wood color is just perfect! Wonderful, simply wonderful! Someone give this girl a medal!!

Oh thank you Ariana. My dad did a great job on the wood. He's had his job directing that wood company for years so he's great at making things.

I even had the thought that if someone could cut pics inteh wood like the cutout of a glider or something on the side would be awesome! If I had the skill to woodburn I could do cool things, but i guess u can always pay someone else to do it, lol.

All of the cage is oak, but the bottom and back r coated w/ something ( i forget what my dad called it) but it some white something that protects the wood and will be easy for wiping.

I'm calling home tonight, i'll have more details.

Thank you all so much!

Think about it this way Abby, look at all the time, hard work and all that both you and your dad put into this! I wouldn`t worry a bit about doing wood burning etc. on this cage. It sounds real nice and even sounds almost easy lol, but that alone is very time consuming lol. It looks beautiful without it and people may want to have their own picture or whatever on it but I think you should leave it up to them lol. Just do the rest of the things, like the drawers, lights etc lol. Just don`t kill yourself

www.klubertanz.com. The wire is called pvc coated wire. Maybe u can even get some from a feed store or something, but thats what its called. I called and bought it on the phone i said i was making a glider cage and wanted pvc coated wire.

A walk in cage sounds sooo cool...your gliders will be super spoiled. I'd like to see some pics when u get done, I love looking at ppls cages!
