Since you haven't gotten your cage yet- are you planning on getting one with a drop pan?
I use newspaper in the bottom of all of my pans. They can't reach it and I never notice a smell. I change the newspaper maybe about twice a week but there have been times where I only did it once and it never got too stinky!

I think drop pans make life soooo much easier!!
I highly recommend you put one in your new cage- that way they won't walk around on all the spit out food, poo & pee- and they won't eat any little bits of food off the floor either!
Definetely go that route- if you don't, and you see what a pain it is to not have a pan you'll be bummed you didn't!!
