I have two Gliders (1M & 1F). I have two Oak branches in their cage that catch urine. When I clean the cage, bedding etc. the cage still smells. I am VERY certain it is the wood holding in the urine smell. What can I do about it? I have some Zep Odorstroyer that works biologically on urine odors but is it safe?

thanks

Any wood in the cage (unless shellaced with several coats) is going to soak up urine. Since gliders tend to chew on branches, I would be very hesitant to use anything on them. Best bet would be to just replace the old branches with new ones

I tend to just get rid of the branches every so often,,, replacing then with new ones or just something else, I agree once that urine soaks in …forget it….. and I do not what to use chemicals, even if they say they are animal safe it could still have an adverse effect. I happen to have a large Aviary in the back yard with parakeets so I do clean the branches off with vinegar and water and then let them dry out real well in the sun and then put them in the birds cage…

[:"green"]Tree branches definitely need to be replaced periodically due to urine absorption. Unfortunately, there is no safe way to get rid of the urine odor...

Besides for just plain old replacing them...I use dilluted vinegar water in the bathtub and just soak the branches in there for about an hour and bake them or let them air dry and pop them back in the cage in time for the buggers to come out and play. The vinegar disinfects as well as neutralizes the urine odor.

Hope that helped!
