How long have you had your gliders for? If you've had them for awhile is this something that has just occurred? Sometimes loss of fur is a sign of stress, or diet related. Has anything new been added to her environment? What diet are you feeding? If you can give us a little more information maybe we can be of further help.

The pattern of hair loss you are describing is often attributed to overgrooming. Linda brought up several great points to think about that may lead to overgrooming and/or hair loss, has anything changed recently?

It definitely sounds like overgrooming. This is almost always due to some stress in the environment. There's a great article you can read about stress factors that may help you find the cause of her overgrooming. Sometimes it takes several changes to find the trigger of the overgrooming. With my Allira, it took me a few months to finally figure out all the stressors that caused hers - but once I got them all figured out, she hasn't overgroomed since - and it's been a couple of years now. Here's the article: Stress in Sugar Gliders

I just read the link above, and it's a wonderful explanation of signs and symptoms of stress and what causes it. I just have two comments, because Overgrooming and SMing are in the same category.
I think everyone should know that Overgrooming does NOT always progress to SMing. MOST of the time it does not.
The SM "cry" was not mentioned in this paragraph, either.
I guess I'm just trying to say I think these two signs of stress should be separated, since SMing can be life threatening and overgrooming is not.

I think this is a misleading statement because often overgrooming is a result of pain in the area of the overgrooming. For example, Xfilefan had a glider that was overgrooming his head and it turned out that he had a tooth abcess and the overgrooming was due to pain in the area. If Jen had assumed this was merely stress related or "not life threatening" she would not have taken this little glider to the vet & found the infection. An untreated infection can quickly go systemic & kill the glider. I think any sign of overgrooming is cause for a vet visit, just to rule out a physical reason for the behavior. After illness and injury have been ruled out, then we can assume its stress. But to do so before medical attention is just too risky.

I have to concede, when you put it that way you are absolutely correct. Better safe than sorry!

I'm going to talk to my parents about taking me with them to the vet. I have the money, but finding the time to go is hard. My vet closes before my mom and I get off work. I have school all day also. I would take them myself, but I wrecked my car last month. I'm going to talk to my dad about it and see if he can take me before he goes to work. My dad keeps moving things around in the room they are in. I've been feeding them the bml diet. I've had them for 2 years and I just noticed the spots last night.

If your dad is rearranging the furniture, then there's a good possibility that is what is stressing them out. A vet check just to be safe is an excellent plan though. Please keep us updated

I will. I just hope so. Well I take her in next week, that was the earliest I could get her in. The other vet I called it said it would be a month. So I took the one that said next week.

I hope this vet is knowledgeable about gliders....did you ask? Has the fur loss gotten any worse? Have you been able to catch them rubbing or over grooming?

That is good to hear. I have a female glider who considers me "Mom", and she stressed when I had to leave her behind for a whole month. She rubbed the fur off over her eyes, too. It's growing back, now. She'll have to be my pouch baby if I take any more long trips, for sure!

Well, they are both fine. The vet just said to watch them for awhile. Nothing more, so that is the update on this.

I know how it is with a new pet, you really sometimes don't even know what questions to ask, let alone the answers! LOL
Hang around and read these forums and share with all these good glider people, and you'll learn!
