I just wanted to know if cat food is good for gliders.

my brothers mother feeds her cat food for protein and I told her not to because it does not sound like it is good for them..

am I right or wrong?

If you give cat food you should use a premium cat food nothing like meow mix ect.

Cat food should Not be the main diet of a glider though.

For protein she can give meal worms or chicken or ground turkey.(with no spices)

What diet are you already feeding your gliders? If they are already on one of the suggested diets, there is no reason to feed cat food.

what flavor of cat food do the sugar gliders like? Also I have a question, my mother -in law brought over some cat grass
for my cat. I know glider can not be around cat nip.. does cat grass fall into the same category? should I throw it away?

thanks

I feed mine pricilla's diet...

I just got off the phone with my brother and that is when he told me what she was feeding hers... I just about died because cat food is not even good for dogs so I assumed it is not good for gliders.

I gave him the list of ingredients for BML basic mix to get her started on for a diet.

she was also trying to wing her joeys off on apple sauce.. that just about killed me as well being apple sauce is said to be a treat not a main course meal...

I told him if anything chicken with chicken gravy baby food.. that is all I had off the top of my head for her and her babies... she got 10 plus some I do believe and my brother is trying to get one of her joeys when they are old enough.

any more quick suggestions I can give for immediate action taken on her part?

Cat food should not be fed to gliders. Diet is very important to gliders. Be sure to check out the diet links under the blue "links" button at the top of the page.

Baby food chicken, fruits & veggies can be given in a pinch, but they have to be only those ingredients! No salt, onion, garlic, lima beans or any other seasonings for that matter! Cat food=NEVER! They need to be on an approved diet to stay healthy & happy and you will not have to supplement for protein or anything else cuz the diets are complete.

Instead of playing go between your brother and the mother, I would think if you could get either of them to come to GC that would help tremendously! Then you dont have to be going back and forth. Although I do commend you on trying to help teach them both so much! Its great that they have you nearby for that.

I told him about this website... he loves duckie and that is why he decided to get one.... I know he will be coming to this site because he wants to know everything possible before getting his little girl.... I am unsure if his mom has internet access but I know he will come here, learn and help her as well... thank you all for all your help... Now I know her babies will be getting the right things....

Cat food is actually a part of Caroline MacPherson's diet. I feed mine a few pieces (maybe 4) each a day. It is high quality premium cat food (evo or solid gold) and they love it. There are others on the board who feed it as well. I emphasize that it is a very small part of their diet - almost like a treat.

Yea I am not sure what kind of cat food she feeds them but I have a feeling there is nothing premium about it...
