sounds like you have "the basics" covered...but what are you planning to use on the bottom of the cage to catch poo/pee/food? Fleece or something disposable like CareFresh? And I am FORCED by the little voice inside me...how much of your ER kit is together? I'm sure I can find the gigantic list of "should have on hand" things that you can pick up here & there. My poor bookbag is on the verge of needing wheels, it's getting heavier by the day! But then I try to be prepared for ANY emergency that might come up. As a minimum, get 2 plastic embroidery hoops (less than $2.00 each at Wal-Mart) and a piece of fleece to make an emergency hammock in case you want to see your baby 24/7 while he or she is sleeping. Lemme go see if I can find the post with some of the OTHER "essentials" that you need in an ER kit....

Couple of questions.. For your 'emergency' hammock can I just buy/make a regular to have an extra, emergency one on hand.
And.. Just out of curiosity how much do you guys think the ER supplies cost? Was just curious..

An emergency hammock is used for when your glider is in an e-collar & cannot climb into their "usual" pouch. I like both the 2-hoops with fleece style (for a REAL NO-NOTICE emergency) or the Pouch Protective Pouch that Sugeebaby sells. Speaking for a couple gliders I've seen in e-collars, they really DO like the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets...they cost like $9.00 apiece (the material used to make them is called shirpa & costs something like $25.00 a yard! ) but they're worth EVERY PENNY because they're comfortable & warm. How much you'll end up paying for everything depends on how savvy a shopper you are. You can get Wal-Mart's equivalent of the Neosporin, buy a box of 500 q-tips & put maybe 50 in a ziploc bag, etc etc. But some things you'll have to "bite the bullet" and pay full price for others (you can't buy just ONE index tab to make an e-collar, or 1 sheet of molefoam or moleskin). Maybe someone near you there in Austin will share one or 2 already-made e-collars with you. (If you were coming to Cleveland in January, you'd get one THERE...alas, it's a bit of a distance from your house to Suz's!) Start with expecting to spend $30 & see how far you get with that. Happy shopping!

So I can buy the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets instead of making the one you suggested? As my brain is fried today.. I'm not too sure what embroidery hoops are.. And have NO CLUE how to make it.. I know that USMom lives in my area but I'm not too sure if she'd be willing to help me with the ER kit.. I have no clue what heat mat or whatever I have to buy the "Human Heating Pad without auto shut-off" .. Guess I'll have to look next time I go to Wal-Mart to see how much everything is going to be.. Any one else have suggestions? :rofmao: Do I have a complete shopping list?

Only $62? That's less than the breeder was quoting me.. Ok, I'll have to check there. I just saw a really good price on a cage on craigslist. So, I'll prob get that.

I'll be bringing a few e-collars to the retreat to sell as well. You also need a carrier for transporting to the vet. A bonding pouch or two a hospital cage A container to keep your mealies in Tent (or bathroom - which I assume you already have) Tent time toys/floor toys

To separate from other gliders? I did write down the toys and pouches.. I'll have to add hospital cage, carrier and Tent.. Which I completely forgot about! Thanks.. I would've gotten my babies home and been like THAT'S WHAT I FORGOT!!! Thanks again everyone! Let me know if I need anything else!

I have an extra pop up type cage & a kitty gym that were on sale @ Menards for only $10 each, if your interested. The pop up can be stored away very easily and used for a travel cage or a hospital cage should you need one. The gym is great and can be covered with fleece and have all kinds of things added to it for play or tent time. Let me know if you want them & we will figure out shipping.

I just saw this, and YES, I will help you with your emergency kit, as well as anything else you are thinking of. There are lots of things around the house you can use in your kit. A lot of things are already in your home first aid kit. The hospital cage is a much smaller cage, it can be your travel cage, even, for ill gliders. An ill glider can't/shouldn't have a full sized cage. I have a LOT of hospital cages, they range from a large critter keeper, to a small hampster cage, to a small suggie cage. It depends on how ill your baby is, or how injured, which is appropriate.
Shawna Who are you networked with? Networking could save your gliders life. Create one now.

I have a critter keeper and I also have a 65 gallon rep. The rep is usually being used so I've been thinking about just sucking it up and buying another one. What diet will you be using? You just have "food for diet" listed. You'll probably need to make an actual list, that way, (say you'll be feeding HPW) you don't start to make a batch and realize you forgot to get honey or eggs. Also, for your ER kit, you can ask your vet and they will usually give you syringes and the IV fluids. OH,if you don't mind, pm me your favorite color (if it doesn't happen to BE pink) and your address. I have a few things I can send. I am really excited for you!!

Just a quick note......wherever you buy toys, make sure that if they are cat toys that they are not treated with or made with catnip in the plastic or materials!!!! I went to buy a whole bunch of toys at the dollar store and ended up having to put most of them back because they had catnip oils in the materials. As for the rest of your list, I see that some of the veterans here are helping you out already, lucky you!!! Congrats on getting the babies soon! And Davie is soooooo right!!!! I have had my Gang close to a year now and STILL can't stop talking about every little cute thing they do! Jessica

Yes, Erica, you need to firmly implant yourself under Shawna's wings since Indiana is too far away from Texas. Lucky YOU, there are at least HALF A DOZEN glider slaves in the Lone Star State (and I love them ALL ) who you can lean on if something happens!! And always keep in mind: when your "regular" friends get bored with your glider babble, you can always turn to US & pour your soul out! We understand the situation & know what the cures are for whatever's ailing you!
