This is probobly a stupid question ,but is it okay that the joey live with the parent as a trio for a while? And they all live together or is it better that when the joey is old enough to live on its on to get a seperate cage for him/her/them to live by themselves or what? The other night I saw gizmo ontop of rissa and i'm assuming they were mateing ,but if the joey is a female would gizmo try to mate with it? or if it was a male would he try to mate with rissa? is it best to get one of them neutered?? Or would it just be best to get a seperate cage for the joey and get him another playmate? I'm just trying to get a better understanding of this all

Yes, joeys will have to be seperated from the parents when they get old enough. Most say 8 weeks, but I believe a joey does better if they stay with mom and dad till 12 weeks OOP. If you have male joeys and wish to keep them in with mom and dad, they will have to be neutered or they will mate with mom and fight with dad. If you have female joeys, you will have to neuter dad in order to keep them all together. HTH
I have several groups of families. Yes, the joeys can live with their parents but fathers will try to mate with daughters and sons will try to mate with their mothers. As sons start to mature, often times the father will fight with the son for dominance. So if you are going to let them remain together, the males should be neutered to prevent inbreeding.

Thanks! Hm.. I think i'll let the joey/joeys go into a new cage when they become old enough to live on their own. If there is only one joey i'll see if i can get another mate for him so they could breed ,but one day i'd like to just have one big colony
Oh and one more question If the joey is another male i wouldn't have to really worry about him and gizmo fighting or him trying to mate with rissa till he becomes mature enough right? so he should be able to live with rissa and gizmo for a couple of months maybe?

On this topic...Question one: I have been letting Mom (Savannah) play with her daughters in Diva's(oldest daughter) cage for a few hours at a time...is this ok? I plan on moving Sydney in with her sister, Diva when she is old enough, but my daughter is afraid she wont be able to take Diva away from Sydney...years down the road. Should I plan on keeping them together forever so they dont miss eachother? Realistically I know my daughter will want to take Diva with her when she goes to college, but should I plan on having her take both Diva and Sydney because of the attachment they will form? Thank you for your time. Photo of Diva attached.

I think that them playing together is fine. I also think that if you are going to move Sydney in with Diva, then you should plan on them being forever cage mates. They will bond and you don't want to seperate bonded gliders. It is just to hard on them. Especially if seperating them means one or both then have to be lone gliders. It would be better to just let Sydney become your daughters and Diva's forever cage mate.
Male joeys can stay with mom and dad usually safely for 3-4 months out of pouch before you have to worry about him trying to mate with mom or fight with dad. (sometimes a bit longer) but once his bald spot becomes prominent, it is time to seperate them.

Thanks Dancing, that helps. I was pretty sure he'd be fine but wanted to make sure. I just want to be really prepared since this would be my first joey experienced and i'm excited
