hi
can anyone tell me if this is normal please,i have a tio of gliders 2 female and 1 male. 1 female has a baby and its been oop for 2 weeks and the other one was pregnant when i checked the bag the other night i found a baby half eaten it was the one who was pregnant the other baby is fine and doing really well.the female whos baby was eaten is really good with the other females baby so i can understand it unless the female was jealous. is it possible for 2 females 2 have joeys rougly at the same time and everything be ok or will this always happen. any info would be greatly appreciated sarah

I am very sorry to hear about your baby. I am pretty sure 2 females can have babies at the same time. The baby that was eaten could have had something wrong with it. I am glad your other one is doing good.

You have the two females in the same cage with one male?
Females nave been known to steal other females joeys, sort of a survival of the genes.
Also, you want to make sure you are feeding extra proteins and calcium to the expected mommy. She may have run out of milk and just couldn't produce any for the baby.
Sorry for your little loss.
Hugs your way.

So sorry to hear about the little one.

Two nursing females housed with an intact male are tricky. Sometimes the females are jealous and eat each other's joeys and others do such a good job taking care of each other's joeys. I would think that one of your females is jealous and doesn't want the other female to have babies.

It could be so many things but it sounds lite the mom didn't have enough milk to nurse the baby. Usually in a trio set up the females will "steal" each others joeys while they are still ip, during the first 1-4 weeks they are in there, that is if they are going to steal them.

Was it the moms first time having joeys? How old is the mom that lost the baby? All things that can play into why they ate the joey.

she was getting extra protien but she is a very selfish glider lol she will not let any of the other gliders near me when she comes out of the cage she chases them off me i think she thinks she is human she is the boss and wont let them eat till she eats i think she musnt have been ready to have a baby as she is very possesive and very food motivated she is also overweight which could have played a part in it she didnt have a very good start in life until i took her so maybe its my fault she is the way she is as i have spoilt her too mutch
thanks sarah

I have also heard about females stealing anothers baby and killing them out of jealousy. My question is, do they steal them right out of the mothers pouch or are the joeys oop when they get stolen? Is there any way to prevent this from happening? I guess its obvious you can`t separate them as the male needs to help take care of the joeys as well. Oh, I hate endings like this, makes me sad. I wish this sort of thing could be prevented. That`s why I changed my mind about having a trio with 2 females, I don`t think I could handle that happening. I`m so sorry about your loss

the mom that lost the baby would have been about 14months as i was told when i got her she was was 8 months when i took her on and ive has her for 6 months but i dont think she was that old now when i got her she had been attacked by another glider not the ones she is with now and she had hair missing on her head and her tail had been chewed off. the baby was still in the pouch on the morning when i checked im not sure how long it has been in pouch but it was quite big and all formed but had no fur on it,do you think i should leave them as they are alltogether as they seemed ok before they got pregnant or should i separate them any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks sarah

if you are going to leave them together get the male fixed so the females won't have to deal with the stress of getting pregnant and then lossing their baby. If you are going to seperate please ge the one you move out a friend.

I personally would leave them together and get the male fixed

I have had only one trio and it was like yours. I had 2 females that were sisters and always been togeter and 1 male. They both had babies at the same time 4 in all. They were about 2 weeks old eyes were open and I thought this is going to work until last Thanksgiving I went to check on them and found that one of the babies was gone nowhere to be found. I seperated the females and left the male with the female I though was better for him and the other female I helped her raise her only joey until he was weaned. Like babysitting for her. She done realy well.

I have never had a trio since. Some people have good luck with them but I just don't feel I could go through loosing another baby that way. I do have 2 females with a neutered male and they do great.
