Get him OUT of my shirt? #70713

Well, I've probably gotten annoying with questions, but, my boy Eddie, once I coax him onto me, plays for awhile, then heads down my shirt. Good right? Well, once he goes in, he doesn't really want to come back out. It's a battle, and usually ends in me taking my shirt off for the crabbing then the running(I just give up the chase/bribe technique). He hates getting off of me and fights not to go back in his cage. How do I get him out of my shirt?

Is Eddie a lone glider? It may be that he needs to cuddle. Does he have a cagemate? They look to us as their own, Badger did that till we got Bonnie...they cuddle alot and play together. He still wants his mommy though! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh no, Eddie's got his brother Topo, they don't really play that much though, maybe that's it? The only problem with keeping him with me is that he doesn't get up until 9 or 10 and I have to get up at 6, I can only play with him until 2am at the latest(earliest rather), and still function(lol).

offer treats and have your hand with the treat inside the cage when he grabs the mealie he possibly will run in the cage and pick a nice spot to eat it. Also another suggestion is let him out BEFORE you feed him for the night. prepair the food while hes on you and when you go by the cage drag the food slowly in the cage with your gliders intrest then close it while they start to eat and your all settled! thats what i do! I have the same problem with Willow and she also has a mate. I bring them in the tent in their pouch (before dinner) and then she goes right in my shirt. I take her out and she hunts until she finds a way in again. Then the chase is on to get her out of my shirt so she can go have dinner. Occassionally they weill both go back in their pouch for me but most days I have to resort to putting them in a critter keeper for transport back to their cage. They don't fall for the treat trick to coax them anymore. Smart little buggers. Mikki has also started the shirt trick so it's pretty funny (to them) when I get one out and the other slips back in. I would just let them stay in my shirt but I have a siberian husky that would eat them in a heart beat if they decided to jump out.

You could use your shirt like a glove by cupping him from the outside and then sliding your shirt off while he is still in your hand and in the shirt. Then just take and place him back in the cage. You're still going to lose your shirt for a few minutes but he might not get so stressed and crabby that way. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Ours like to play this game too. We try and hold out of feeding them until after play time....Comet our female is pretty good at going back...Bob would rather glide to the floor and run under the bed! It cracks me up that the gliders know that we humans can't reach the middle of our backs...and to complicate it they go down the shirt...I guess it thier secret hideout!!!! ha ha ha

Mikki decided to taste my arm pit a few nights ago while he was in there. That was it, everybody out of the pool. I screeched and jumped when he did it I couldn't help it.

Don't feel bad about the tasting. They decided to wake up and go with me to run some errands. While I was eating dinner (Red Lobster) somebody decided my back tasted really really good. I yelped b/c it startled me they crabbed, and well, boy, I had some trouble playing that off as a cell phone! I've just given up, treats don't work, too darn smart, so I just take the shirt off and stick their furry butts back in their cage. Love um an all, but 5-6 hrs on your back is long enough. LOL

Mine go in my shirt during tent time when they're not ready to wake up yet. If I take them in the tent later, they don't go down there aside from when they're playing (in which case they come right back out).

get a big shirt with a pocket on it, follow this link: http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/bonding.html#Pocket

click on the Training link, for a section on pocket training. If he really just wants to cuddle, you can use the pocket t-shirt, then when you're done, take off the shirt and hang it in the cage, with him still in it. shouldn't be any protest, since the pocket can stay pretty stationary. this is a good alternative for males vs. bra babies as well.
