My female, Bebe, has only had one joey these past two litters. She is 4 years old and I was just wondering how many years they are productive in captivity. I know they only live about 8-10 years in the wild and up to 15 years in captivity. Just unsure how long they are productive in captivity. Another thing is she only has boys! Do anyother breeders out there have a pair that have only had females or males?

Well, Bourbon's (as in BML) glider Baybe had a joey when she was 11 years old <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> My older breeding female is about 5 and she still has twins every time and has joeys back to back to back. I've never had a glider that just produced 1 sex. All of my gliders seem to kind of switch back and forth...

[:"green"]I believe that the average age for gliders to stop reproducing is around 8 years old in captivity. At least, this is the information I was given when I was trying to figure out Pika's age after I got her. She had two joeys in separate litters after I got her and didn't reproduce again. That was three years ago, so I now assume she's about 11 years old. Since I'm her third owner, I don't really know, though.

Yea Bebe also has joey's back to back. Which ok with me I cant get enough of the little ones they just kinda steal my heart. It is very hard for me to sell them I get so attached. But wow 11 years old. My husband tells me they usually only produce for about 4-5 years and she has only had boys! Wonder why she is only having one joey?? I really like her to have two so when I sell them they go together, and I only sell together, and I dont have to worry about them ever being alone.

If I remember my biology right when it comes to the sex that is all dependant upon the sperm that is donated by the father. Just as in humans the father decides the sex of the baby...so maybe your daddy can only produce boys? I don't know correct me if I am wrong!

Well The first joey Bebe had she had been bred by a friend of mines male. This joey was also a boy aswell. But its all ok with me I like the males. The male I have now has the sweetest disposition and all the joeys have his temperment. Bebe is a little different. She bites unless offered an insect. That is the only way I can pet her. She will not let me hold her at all. Her grandparents are wild right out of Australia. I think that is kinda cool in a way!!

I went a visited a friend of mine that's been a sugar glider breeder for some time today and we got on the subject of age and breeding. She said that she retires most of her pairs when they are about 6 years old, but she has 1 pair that is 13 years old and they have a joey IP right now!
