OK, so Gizzy has been to 3 vet visits within the past week...the first two were with my regular vet and the third was with a glider specialist...everything turned out to be fine health-wise with him, tests were run, he had 3 physicals, he's healthy as can be, all we have to do is give him calcium drop for the next month (the specialist prescribed it, and he LOVES that we have him on the BML diet)...here's the problem....I think going to the vet in his pouches, especially the first two visits, have now caused him to have a MAJOR aversion to his pouches...before these visits, Gizzy was in his pouch and with me all day and all night till playtime, he LOVED his pouches...everyday before work I'd go over to his cage and hold out his pouch and he'd jump right in. All his other behavior has been normal...still giving kisses, snuggling with me on the couch under the blanket, playtime is "maniac time" for him....but he REFUSES to go in his pouches and if you put him in one, he bites at it continuously...I've tried putting treats in there, I've tried loading it up with his favorite blankies, I've tried just hanging them in the cage, he won't go...I don't want him to lose that pouch love, I can't take him to work now cuz he won't go in his pouch and I don't want our bond to start to go downhill because of that...againm I'm almost positive this has to do with the vet visits, he was really upset after the first visit especially and I had to put him back in his pouch against his will just so I could drive home safely, but now I'm afraid! How do I fix this, what can I do?

Time. That is what is needed. If he associates the pouch with something he does not like or feel good about he isnt going to want to be in it. Just put a pouch in his cage and leave it in there for him. Once he does decide to go back in it, think of it as starting all over again. Step one. What does he sleep in during the day? Do they have a nestbox? If they all sleep in a pouch, you may consider taking him and another one of his cagemates and put them in a bonding pouch together. That may give him a little more of a comfort feeling as well.

Gizzy is a single glider, but he gets ALOT of attention from me...he spends, no exaggeration, anywhere from 15-18 hours a day with me every single day, so he is a happy little boy. During the day, he sleeps in one of those Pillow pouches from Karin and he really loves it....however, he also used to love the matching bonding pouch she sent with it, but now he won't even go in....How many pouches should I hang in his cage at once? Two maybe? Or just one? Also, how long could this take do you think? The first time around when we first brought him home, it took about 2 weeks for him to go in his pouches on his own...i'm just worried because we go to Pennsylvania for the holidays and Gizzy is coming and during the day I want to have him with me in a bonding pouch so he doesn't get scared of being in an unfamiliar house....

I would offer a few pouches… in the cage, including the pouch he no longer likes, that way he can explore it at his own pace,,,, and may be get a new bonding pouch too, so that he has something to separate that one event from being in a pouch with you…. Also wanted to add… sorry you are going through this..., but you got to admit they are smart little ones… and just keep lovin on him, be will come back around….

that's the problem...he won't go in ANY of his pouches, INCLUDING the new one that came the day he had runny poop (which initiated this whole vet thing)...so I dunno if because he pooped on his new pouch, he now hates it? I'll put two pouches in tonight...it's weird, everything else is normal, he's asleep in the hood of my sweatshirt that I have on right now, so he and I are still bonded, it's those darn pouches he won't go near...will putting those pouches in there traumatize him even more because they're in his cage WITH him? I guess though that I'm going to put them in anyway just to see, because I want him to love his pouches again lol....and yes they are smart little suckers, it's pretty sad when you realize your glider might be more clever than you lol ............

I should also mention that he WILL go in and out of pouches during playtime in his tent...we play hide and seek, as goofy as that sounds..."glideritis" has hit me hard lol...is that a good sign that he'll use them during playtime? All hope isn't lost, right lol?

It wont take any time you'll see. He will soon learn that he can go into a pouch and not go to the vet. Poor Guy!! Also, IF you do have to take him back to the vet, I would recommend using something other than a pouch to take him in. That way it doesnt happen again. Continue the pouch playing game with him in the tent, this will help ease his fear. Probably no more than a couple days before you see he is snug as a bug in a rug back in his pouches!!

Melee starts shaking when I put her in the travel cage, cause she associates it with the vet and 3 surgeries. I take it in the bathroom during play time and let her explore it at her leisure, and that helped, a lot!

Alright, I feel a bit better now....I took 3 of his pouches along with 44234214554 blankies (his blankies are his favorite toy, I'll hide them in various spots in his cage everynight and he can be seen literally FLINGING blankies about the cage, it's aa circus....) into the tent and he was in and out of all of them, so we'll ease our way back into the pouches....we had to end playtime early however because Gizzy has taken to biting my neck with a passion like I've never seen....what a weirdo

I don't know about gliders, but with dogs and cats I clean it REALLY well to get out any familiar smell and then find whatever is the favorite treat or toys and put them in and around. Just continue letting her go in as she is ready. once she is comfortable at home start going on small FUN trips. I know that this will take time so others might have a quicker solution. Good Luck

I don't think there is a quick solution all you can do is give it time.

Just an update...Gizzy VOLUNTARILY went into one of his pouches today! I literally stood stone still in the middle of the kitchen with the pouch cradled in my arms while he groomed himself for HALF AN HOUR before going to sleep...if he is not the most ridiculously spoiled animal on the planet...sheesh! lol....but he's worth every penny! Between the numerous vet visits, sobbing hyterical to Gizzy to "stop being a sick booger" lol, and now finding myself trying not to breathe too loudly for fear I might scare him OUT of his pouch, I now know what it means to be owned by a glider....I LOVE IT!
