yeah i was thinking about it also about ,eucalyptus sap (juice)and manna.
it belongs in there natural diet ( at least i found out) i give mine bml but i was thinking to give them this once a month sfor omthing an extra.
I know now that acacia fum is cald here in europ arabiq gom, and i know that some painters use it for craceleer works, but i dont think that would be wise to give.

and manna do they mean the kind of bread or he plant??

so Yeah wher can we get acacia gum, eucalyptus sap (juice)and manna. and is it wise to give it?
and what kind do we need?

Yeah, the plant exudates may be confusing.

Acacia gum (or Acacia glycans) is a substance existing in the tree sap that oozes out of a wound of an Acacia tree. The gum becomes a gelatinous solid when it comes in contact with the air and it thereby protects the tree from bacterial and fungal infections when there is external damage to the plant. It contains a series of sugars, including glucose, galactose, arabinose, fructose, mannose, rhammnose, and xylose. The gliders in the wild make wounds in the tree wood and thereby consume the gums as they exude. They are quite water soluble, so gliders have a biting/licking fest with the stuff!

Manna is derived from sap and exudes from exterior damage on tree branches and leaves caused specifically by sap-sucking insects. Enzymes from the saliva of the insects chemically alters the state of the phloem sap, and hence you have manna that seeps from the wounds. Gliders will glean new foliage and flower buds to find and consume manna.

Honeydew (or lerp) is a white encrustation that is excreted by sap-sucking insects (aphids and several phillid species). The insects consume large amounts of tree sap, and the excess sugars are excreted from their little insect bums (lol) and left as honeydew deposits on leaves and beneath the bark where the insects reside. Gliders will lick outer branches and areas beneath open bark to get at this stuff.

Nectar is a sugary solution found in flowers. They encourage animals to pollinate the plant by luring them into the flower. They are typically low in protein and high in sugars. Gliders love it and feed from various species of flowers for their nectar.

Hope this may have clarified things a little. In terms of where to buy gums, you can order the stuff online. I'm not sure if Big_Ern sells it still. There are various species of gums, but the kind you want is not Arabic Acacia gum (the most common), but Australian Acacia Gum.

I don't think BigErn is selling that stuff anymore.

I did find a link he gave a while back in another post to order Acacia gum- although based on what Mikey said I'm thinking this is the wrong stuff Link

I ordered a 1 pound container of it too.... hmmm....

What exactly is the difference between the Arabic and Australian? I'm pretty sure this is what BigErn was selling on his site (but not 100% sure )

I couldn't find the Australian anywhere...

Actually, I think the two are relatively similar in composition (at least Dr. Humes says it is), with main differences lying in water-solubility. Arabic gum is okay to feed to gliders, too. I was thinking back to what Big_ern was selling, and since it was of Australian acacia, I fugured it may be more preferable.

Big_ern will be by I'm sure to help out! I was pretty sure Big_ern sold the Australian Acacia... or NO WAIT!!! Was it Australian pollen?! Oh, man. I'm getting mixed up!

Need more sleep...

Could be the pollen! I bought both my Bee pollen & Acacia gum directly from links he recommended (that I had to dig around for!)....

I did get the Australian Bee Pollen.... and I looked again- I can't find any Australian Acacia Gum

At least if they're similar and Arabic is ok then that's good enough for me!

Go back to bed Mikey- it's too cold to be up anyway!

I got Austrailian bee pollen and Acacia gum (not sure what type, possibly arabic) from Ern. My gliders won't touch either though. I just got the small sample packs to try. Some gliders will go nuts over it. I was really surprised that mine didn't like it.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.
