I have a female with a joey IP. Not sure how long it's been in there exactly maybe 3-4wks. My camera is being repaired so i can't take a picture for an opinion on age. Been giving her some extra mealies and reading all i can in breeding and babies section. Still unsure of if i'm doing enough. Here are some questions:

Should I be giving Wambaroo on mom's food now and throughout the rest of the IP time? or is it only neccessary in the end when mom is big? There are different stages of Wambaroo, what do I need to get? Is the puppy replacement milk w/colostrum the same or is that only for suppl. joeys if needed?

Can i take mom with me in bonding pouch during the day sometimes while she has one IP, or is it best to leave her in the cage with dad?

Does her room/cage area need to stay any warmer than normal?

This is a first time

I have never used wambaroo with my mommas with joeys ip so I don't know you should start adding it. I usually just increase the protien and calcium with pinkies, boiled chicken or turkey, extra mealworms or extra BML mixture.

I'm sure someone who uses the Wambarro will be here shortly to answer your questions.

As for taking momma with you while she has joeys ip it really depends on what she is used to and how she is handling it. If she is used to you taking her with you all the time then it would be a good idea to continue taking her with you so she does not get stressed that she did something wrong since she is staying in her cage instead of with you. But if she is showing signs of stress if you take her out let her stay in the cage. Let her call the shots all moms are different. Some want to be left alone while others crave more attention.

I forgot the other question.. Keeping her room a little warmer never hurts. When the joey comes oop it is very important that he or she stays warm all the time. If the parents are warm to begin with then it is easier for them to keep the joey warm. We keep our room about 75 all year long. If you can't keep your house that warm I would suggest getting a space heater to put in the room.

I had just been reading here and there and people metioned giving Wamabaroo to mommy gliders. Didn't know if that was the norm or not. Currently i'm just letting giving her extra mealies. Just want to give this little guy/girl the best chance for survival and good health.

Like Elisabeth posted, it's always good to give extra protein and calcium.

I personally cannot deal with little pinky mice so when my girls are carrying joeys they always get scrambled eggs every few nights, another couple of nights they get the chicken or turkey dices by Beechnut Table Times, or I cook them some chicken, (boil, no seasonings at all).
Sometimes I sprinkle a little wombaroo on their food, but not every night.

Extra mealies are fine but they really aren't as high in protein as the chicken, eggs or even the (ewwe!) Pinky's.

I do know I have seen posts from others who said the didn't think they could deal with the pinkies, but tried them as say it really isn't bad at all, I guess I'm a fraidy cat! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worried2.gif" alt="" />

When using wombaroo... you need to pay attention to the time period of the joeys life cycle....

Wombaroo has two milk replacer forumulas. One for when the joey is at less than 80% of its POUCH life and when it's over 80% of it's pouch life.

If you are sprinkling wombaroo milk replacer on the mommas food I sprinkle it over everything and give 1/8 tsp a night. I use the less than 80 for the first 6 and a half weeks the joey is IN POUCH and then greater than 80 milk replacer for 6.5 weeks in pouch til they are eating on their own.
