I don't even know exactly how to descibe this, but our male glider who's about 3 and 1/2 months now has these two pink string looking things hanging out of his rear end about 1/8 of an inch. They're a little wider than thread, but fairly small. I thought I noticed them slightly protruding last night, but didn't really seem like it was anything and he was just as hyper and hungry as usual, so I blew it off.

Today however, when I was cleaning their cage, he climbed out his pouch to do a number 2 and I noticed as he was going to the bathroom that these 2 string things came out even more, maybe about 1/4 inch or so. The way I previously explained them is the best I can do.

At first, I thought maybe he got into something he shouldn't have and was trying to excrete it out, so I grabbed for them and went to gently pull them out. Well, as I went to pull them, his rear end started to come out with it (kind of like when they do number 2, only it came out more than normal so I stopped). After I let go his rear retracted and went back to normal, but now I'm freaked out and worried about him.

I have no idea what it could be. Since they're pink, I'm concerned it might be a part of his insides or something. He seems perfectly healthy and is behaving just as always, but this just doesn't seem right to me. I was thinking it might be parasites but if so, those things are big for his size, and I don't think they'd be hanging out of there like that. Oh, when he did do number 2, it did seem to come out fine, so it doesn't seem like he's backed up or anything.

Please, if anyone has even the slightest clue what it could be let me know. We're on vacation for the holidays in NY and I don't know where I could even take him at this point!

Seriously concerned,
AC, Nicole, Little Man, n Precious

LOL That my friend is the glider penis. I freaked out the first time I saw it, too! It stretches up to their head and you may often catch your boy "flossing" (not really flossing) with it when he's cleaning himself! It normally comes out every now and then, especially at the onset of puberty, which is around the age of your glider at the moment. If it is constantly out and doesn't contract in, take the glider to the vet.

Those marsupials really have a funny reproductive system! Quite different from we eutherian mammals.

Are you sure that's what those things are? They are actually coming right out of his anus? Hope I can use that word, but if they censor it, they're coming out of his number 2 hole.

Don't think I would've hurt him pulling on them as long as they retracted right back do you? He seemed fine afterwards, but it freaked me out when his rear started to come out as if it was attached to them. I did pull very gently, and now if those were what you said which they probably were, now this is a little perverted. I feel kind of stupid, but these guys anatomy are just so odd it's hard to NOT freak when you see something new that doesn't seem right.

Well, at this point I'm going to assume that's what they were unless someone else says otherwise. I knew they had 2 heads, but not 2 whole penises. Well, thanks for the info.

Take care,
AC, Nicole, Little Man, n Precious

Oh my god, I can't believe some people cut them off! Poor things! Well thank you so much for putting my concerns at ease. I don't know how to acually close out a post or anything like that, but I guess this might be a pretty good post to leave up for people, though now knowing what it actually is, it seems this would be more appropriate in the anatomy section of the forums. Regardless, thanks again, and don't worry, I won't be cutting anything off!

Take care,

It's okay..LOL I freaked out on here too the first time I saw Badgers. Here's what happened to me. I had Badger in his pouch on my lap and he was doing "something". The pouch kept moving. I peeked inside and saw that he had this long red thing in his mouth! I thought he had gotten a worm or something. Here's the worst part...I panicked and tried to grab it! UP HE COMES WITH IT YELLING! I let go and got one mean look! I came here in hysterics about it..not knowing what the heck he was doing..that's when I learned they actually have a name for it.."flossing"! LMBO I bout died. *sigh* It's funny now..wasn't then!

My first gliders were girls, but I was glad I did read about what the penis looks like, so when I got Felix and saw "it" for the first time I was ready.
I recommend the website Gliders Uncensored.
It is a wonderful place to learn about the unique anatomy of our glidin' buddies!

Okay I don't mean to laugh,...I'll straighten up.
I fortunately veiwed pictures of the anatomy prior to my getting suggies, and all I can tell you is, please don't pull on his privates anymore. Poor little guy is probably thinking, what is wrong with this human of mine?

I also can laugh now, but when this first occured, I was petrified and scared too. I also pulled on it, thinking it was something he got a hold of. After all, I could do that to my cat when something was coming out of her. WRONG!!!

Yes, Hope's website, www.glidersuncensored.com was started for just this reason. If you go there, she tells about an email with a woman who was just as freaked out as you were.

Oh too funny! I'm glad he is okay. I remember the first time I saw Herman's; I thought he was pulling his intestine's out! I was mortified and whipped out my glider book and relized he was just "having fun"

I have been vey fortunate to not have to experince the "flossing" LOL
but I have looked at Hope's site and read alot of others experineces on that. I think if i had seen that before i read any of the info on the glider anatomy i would have freaked out too.

You guys are hilarious. Nice to know I wasn't the only one who freaked. These guys really do have a completely different anatomy than what we normally expect. Great to know I can count on all of you to not only eliminate all my concerns about my little guys, but to give me a good laugh in the process. I love this site!

Take care and thanks,
