I live in an area where the weather is nice all year round and my husband will put the suggie cage outside for fresh air and sunshine. They love being outside. Well, we have problems with crickets and my husband sprays around the outside of the house with Raid ant and roach killer to keep the crickets out of the house. When I brought them in that night I noticed one of my suggies going in circles and acting different. The next morning was dreadful. On the bottom of the cage was both of my suggies lifeless. I picked up one and she was gone. When I picked up my second she moved. I was sad and happy at the same time and emotions were going crazy. Unfortantly, where I live, vets have no idea what to do with suggies. I told him I think they ate a cricket. I can't think of any other reason for this to happen. The vet wanted to put her down. Saying there was no hope of her survival. I refused and decided to do this on my own. I feed here her favorite, ensure. She drank it. I then took her to work with me hiding her so that I wouldn't get into trouble for having her there. My co-workers fell in love with her and helped hide her. Every hour I was checking on her hoping that she would be alive. That first night was terrible, she woke up in the middle of the night making the horrible sound. All I could do was grab her and hold her tight and pray that she would die quickly. I held her close and waited. She calmed down and relaxed. I believe that she woke up and could not see and that scared her, thinking she was alone. For the next week I keeped her with me always. She even sleeped with me at night cuddled under my neck or laying on my chest. I also work at a school and the kids just love when I take her. It has been three months now and she is healthy but is blind. We have bonded and I love being with her. Because she is blind she has her days and nights mixed up so she is awake when I am and sleeps when I do. Stella is now healthy and happy. She loves sitting on my head during the day cuddling with me at night under the blankets. There can be happy endings.

This is certainly a lesson for all of us and a reminder about the dangers of using pesticides around our gliders. We think of the toxicity of the pesticide itself, but this underscores that with our gliders being insect eaters, the danger is two-fold because they might eat the insect itself frown I'm so sorry you lost the other glider but I'm very glad it worked out for the survivor even though she is blind now.

I'm going to move this thread over to Health & Hygiene for now so that it can get more notice so others learn the lesson, too hug2

I have a blind glider too due to an infection. She is still just as sweet as can be and now has 3 new cage mates. While it is painful that you lost one I am so happy to hear how well it turned out with the second.

I am sorry for the loss of your 1 glider but so very happy you learned how to cope with a blind glider - may your days and hers be happy ones
