Ok here's an attempt to start another brainstorming thread on diets. I read here and there that feeding cat food to gliders is bad. yet an author of a glider book states on a site that she feeds cat kibble to her gliders every day (and in her book states not to) ok well. I wouldnt even feed cheap food to my CATS. but what about the "new" foods that are coming out? no corn! more meat and meat by-products. seaweed/kelp and neat things like that are being added, no ash, etc. Like Nature's choice? somer cat fooods are even made with duck (shhh dont tell MY duck) perhaps as a supplemental part of the diet? SOFTENED of course! what does anyone think? perhaps we need to compare ingredient lists. after sifting through all this diet stuff....glider grub MAY have some redeaming value. I actually contcted themand asked for a breakdown of their list. the guy who runs it actually has been very attentive to some glider questions and replaced my wodent wheel that went "bad" with out a problem, I didnt even have to return it to him! he seems to truly care about his pets and his customers (unlike Exotic Nutrition who still refuses to refund me even though they admit to receiving BOTH my returns!)sorry off topic! so...cat food? what do YOU think?

I believe the only possibly acceptable cat food would be the kind fed to the wild cats at a zoo. I prefer to feed one of the known glider approved diets found on here. HPW. On the glider grub, the guy 'may' be giving you self-serving information. It wouldn't do his business good to tell you his product is bad. If he has changed it so that it is now good for gliders, then good for him. Again, I prefer to stick with what has been proven to be good for my fur babies.

Lots of us feed cat food. It has to be of a premium quality. I use the ones that "mimic" natural diets - high protein, low carb, no grains. I use Indigo Moon (which is what my cats eat). Sometimes my gliders eat it, sometimes they don't - but it is offered daily. It is not a main part of my gliders diet - I use it in place of a pellet. It is offered along side my guys regular diet (HPW) From what I understand, in the UK they feed cat food as a main part of the diet.

I feed Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance cat food as a protein source. It is low in iron, the ca:p ratio is 2:1, negligible ash, whole meat ingredients. I feed one or two small bits per glider per day 4 or 5 days per week.
This is in addition to a nectar mix, limited fruit, and lots of green/orange veggies.
Cat food has been used as a primary protein source in the UK for about 15 yrs.
The cat food is not fed as a cheap ingredient because it's possible for anyone to buy the most expensive as gliders eat so little. It is fed as a highly assimilable food.
Mine have only crunched it for 3 yrs tho.
