Has anyone ever introduced a smaller cage inside a Rept? I have a pair of adults who are really lonely and I am considering putting her cage inside a 260 Rept with the male. Has anyone tried this. Is this not a good idea for any reason? Any thoughts?

It would just be a male and female intro. They are both really mellow. The male lost his mate a couple months ago and the female has been a single glider her whole life. He is 2 and she is 5

What is there current attitude toward each other?
Are they housed next to each other so they can talk and see one another? I have never tried that method but would have the same concern if they can reach each other at all. I have noticed through all my 4 intros that the ones that were hissing and squeak/barking at one another I had no problems from. The one I had trouble with was Snupi ans he tried to attack every time he saw the girls on the side of the cage.
I agree with the male being neutered if these are rescued or gliders with no lineages. I would neuter simply due to the female's age but some probably would not think it's needed.

No he's not neutered but he will be. They are in the same room and yes they can see each other and they do talk and chitter back and forth.

sounds like a good start, have you started swapping pouches yet so they can get used to each others scent?

It sounds like you want to do a variation on my Cage-Within-A-Cage Method of introductions. I used this method successfully for a number of years before repts became an option for gliders. Repts are much safer to use and that is what I recommend now. Simply put, a smaller cage is placed inside a larger cage (in this case, your rept) so the gliders can see/hear/smell/touch each other with minimized contact. The "new" glider is placed in the smaller cage and the "old" glider is kept in its regular, larger cage. Supervision for the first hour or two is needed to make sure they don't try to grab each other through the bars of the smaller cage. As long as they are not grabbing each other, you then periodically check them to see how they are interacting with each other. Once you see them trying to groom each other through the bars/mesh, you can try to open the smaller cage to allow them access to each other. Have a large fleece blanket (18" square) available so you can separate them if they ball up. If they get along, eliminate the smaller cage. Usually, with this method of introductions, they get along and can be housed together within a week from the start time of introductions. Sometimes it takes longer though (usually in the case of males being introduced to each other). In some instances, it takes less than 24 hours. I now recommend using a smaller reptarium though because the opportunity to grab and injure the other glider is eliminated. If you can get a smaller rept to use instead of the cage, that would be better.

I actually did this last night with my little girls. They did great! I've been swapping pouches and toys for about 2 weeks. I put Luci's cage in the Rept with Pixel. They were playing and chittering all night. This morning at mealie time Luci let me out my hand in her cage and took mealies from me without crabbing or lunging! She had a completely different attitude! Maybe we will do tent time tonight. It would be awesome if they bond quickly! I am hopeful for Harley and. Jerzee now when the time comes
