Alright, my folks just went ahead and got me exactly what I had asked for this year for Christmas--maybe. They purchased me a Sharper Image Steam Wizard Professional. Its a turbo steamer and wet/dry vacuum (go http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview/sku__SI570WHT to see it). My concern is if this is going to work appropriately for cleaning my suggies cage. I don't really want to open it up and test it out without having some idea of its usefulness. If necessary, I'd like to return it--especially since it was rather spendy. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Krissa

PS--I know that I've heard of other people using the Scuncci Steamer. In case I need to return this one, what are some other brands people use?

I have the Shark Turbo Steamer and it really puts out the steam. However, in my opinion, there is only a couple of things the steam cleaners are good for. One is killing germs and bacteria (not all) and two is they loosen the gook on the cage, but they don't make it miraculously disappear in the mist! It is easier to wipe off once it's loosened that's for sure. Mine has a hose and scrub brush on the end which really helps. I use this during the winter when I can't take the cages outside and power wash them.

Steamers aren't wonder tools, but they sure beat the heck out of a bucket of water and rags for cleaning cages if you have to clean them indoors. The water mess is very minimal, I just put a plastic tablecloth underneath my cage and go with it.

I agree. I have the Scuncii Streamer and I love it, but it did take me awhile to get the hang of it. I would say it's 100% better and faster than a hose or bucket & water. I use mine year round but you do still need some towels or a sponge to wipe. {still quicker though}

I love our big steamer- not the shark, but the idea is the same.. it holds 50 oz and with the various attachments I scrub most of the gunk off the cage and then can just follow with a rag to pick up what doesn't fall off... and I love the floor attachment- does our hardwood wonderfully... I do go through a few pads/rags on it though most of the time...

I got this steamer for Christmas.... I haven't gotten to use it yet but hopefully tonight or tomorrow!!

I'll let ya know how it works- although it's about the same price as the one your parents got you...

I have the Shark Turbo Steamer also, but its really doesn't do a good job of cleaning. I now use a power washer. At 2400 PSI no germ can hold on to the cage and I am able to clean all the cages very quickly.

Our Steamer is a Steamfast 50 oz capacity- basically the same as the one SugarBabees has... I looked at both and they were basically the same, had good reviews, but there was a sale on the steamfast one at the time.. including more attachments and brushes too- I love the floor kit!
