What color are the ends of gliders' noses, usually?
I was just feeding HP a treat and I noticed her nose was sort of deep pink, almost purple, on the end.
To be honest, I don't think I ever really noticed before. The rest of her nose is pinkish, just dark at the end.
She let me touch her nose without recoiling or crabbing, but I'm just curious.

My gliders noses are both pink. I remember reading about e-collars, when putting them on, make sure their nose doesn`t turn puple, which means it`s on too tight. I think I would call my vet ASAP on that one. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on here comess along soon...

When mine first wake up, they look sometimes a purplish or super light pink till they are more awake..then back to pink again. I was thinking after them sleeping so long, the color from lack of movement gets "off"? LOL Kinda like when we first get up...hehe

If the glider has been awake for quite some time and the purple color on the nose hasn't gone away, then it could be a sign of respiratory problems. It also could mean that the temperature of the room is too low, that it needs to be increased to around 76 degrees. My husband once had a glider whose nose was purple and he increased the temperature and it went away. I hope this is not the case with your glider.

hehe my gliders nose was purple, once, I had a thread with the exact same title as this one. I don't think anything's wrong, atleast nothing was wrong with mine. It's just something to do with temperature and stuff like that, nothing to worry about!

If it does have to do with temperature, I`d say add tons of snuggie blankets for them. I fill my pouches with tons of blankies for them and plus I have a ceramic heater for reptiles facing the cage being that I turn my heat down to about 64 at night. I also have a humidifier in the room which seems to keep the room around 70 with both running. Humidity is important for healthy gliders too from what I`ve read.

A purple nose can mean 1 of 4 things: 1. The glider just woke up (will go back to normal within an hour or so) 2. Temp too cold (will go back when glider warms up) These two are the ones to worry about: 3. Respiratory problem. The glider is not getting enough air, either from constriction or congestion in the lungs, inhibiting air from getting into the bloodstream. The gliders nose will stay discolored, and vet attention is imperative ASAP. 4. Infection. It can indicate, if the color does not return to normal soon, an infection present in the head/upper jaw. The body rushes blood to the area in an attempt to heal it, and causes the nose to discolor. (I've personally dealt with all 4).Again, vet attention is necessary. Therefore, if the nose doesn't return to pink within a reasonable amount of time, I would go to the vet, as something else might be going on. Gliders are so good at hiding illness, it is often the first indication of something serious that may be in the works. Let us know if your little one's nose stays dark, or goes back to pink.
