Does crabbing ever end? do they finally bond to you and stop crabbing every time you move, touch their pouch, or....much of anything? I hope the answer is yes... because the crabbing is awful!

yes they do, just give it time. Willow used to crab up a storm and now I can rub them in thier pouch and put my hand in and she doesn't crab any more. She does crab though of a stranger tries to touch her pouch. She has to learn to trust you and that takes time. It took mine a couple of months to fully trust me.

LOL, I used to think the same thing!! One of our boys used to have a GIANT crabfest every time you even thought about touching his pouch, or moving or anything that could possibly be near him. I can safely say that I haven't heard a crab in this apartment for well over 3 months, which includes from our girl that we got from a guy who hadn't played with her in a long time and kept her in a bird cage feeding with a teensy tiny suede pouch with no friends.

I did hear my little guy crab when we went to the vet, but you would too if they were injecting you with fluids!! Just like vagraphix said, give it time and they'll come around and one day you'll realize you can't remember when the last time you heard a crab was.

We've had our gliders for 2 months and they NEVER crab any more, even if we reach into the pouch and grab them. Kinda bums me out, because I always thought it was cute.

Kristy!!! So glad to hear that my babies don't crab anymore! I had to chuckle when you said it bummed you out when they no longer crabbed.

It takes gliders, depending on their personalities, a while to eventually stop crabbing, once they get used to their surroundings and their owners. If you have them in a bonding pouch on you and they crab every time you move, cup your hand over them and hold them firmly until they stop crabbing. I have found that it works very well. I hope this helps.

Kristy, I am glad I am not the only one. I also like the crabbing. I think it is a cute sound. Eeyore never crabs anymore. YaYa on the other hand, is a very grouchy glider when he first wakes up. He kind of does this crab/chirp/growl thing every night when he is waking up. No one has to be in the cage or even anywhere in the room and he will be making his fussy sounds. Once he wakes up and has his mealies he is fine, but he is just a pistol when he first wakes up! After all he has got it in his blood, his mom is the reason the Sissy Pouch was made. Like mother, like son. lol

I, too, kinda like the crabbies. Gigi's doesn't crabb near as much now as when we got her in November. Now it is more like she is grumbling and fussy sometimes rather than declaring war. Jingle & Belle only crab for split second til they know it is Juan's hand in there with them. Felice was very scared and crabby, but she too is getting much better after only a few days. I think Starr has crabbed twice since we got her. She doesn't care what the heck is going on.
We take all of them to church and hope for the best during the quiet times...LOL...so far so good. People's cell phones have gone off but our babies has been quiet.
Oh, and how is yours out of pouch? None of ours crab unless they are in a pouch. When they are out playing in tent or cage they are fine.

Don't mean to go off topic of the crabbing noise but to answer Lyndy; They bark for different reasons, it is by far, my favorite sound of all. They bark for all and more of these reasons:

1. To locate other gliders: "Okay where are you and WHY aren't you barking back at me!"
2. Hunger: "I'm Hungry.... FEED ME..... NOW!"
3. Attention: "Hey Mom, you want to see me double flip again, I'll do it for a mealie or a kiss"
4. Play with other gliders: "Hey ya lazy bums, get out of that pouch and play barrel of monkeys with me!"

But mostly, in the wild it's to locate loved ones and their colony friends.
It's a very sweet and endearing sound they make, even at 2 or 3 in the morning, I think they bark to see if I'm alive or something. It's so Cute.

Back to the crabbing, I have one male that insists that his crabbing really is bigger than he is. His name is 'Big', just for that reason. His crabbing persisted even after bonding which took a very long time, longer than any of my others. He is about 2 years old now. He has for the last 4 or 5 months stopped, some do take alot longer than others, it really does begin with their and your personalities.

Just be consistant with your efforts so you can move forward one step further every day.

How long have you had those two?couldn't have been more than a few days right?
Just give them time-they'll come around on their own time though. Good luck and have fun with your new babies!

I have two gliders, female(Boo Boo) and a male (Bailey) Boo only crabbed a little when I brought her home and was very easy to bond with...Bailey is the new addition and he crabbed all the time...I couldn't move him or touch him or go near him without the crabbing...I thought oh no I will never get him tame...or bonded..I got Bailey one month ago and proud to say that he is bonding with me...All it takes is time and patience..

When I got Bailey, I thought that I couldn't let him out like I did Boo because he was so hard to get back in his cage...and by me grabbing at him, just seemed to scare him more...But then I felt guilty for not letting him play...

So what I did was finally let him out to play and I kept bonding pouches (3) in the room, along with blankets and he played and on his own would go in the pouch or blanket...Did this for about 3 days and amazingly the crabbing has stopped and he crawls all over me...Still not bonded like Boo, but we are getting there...\

Good Luck...

Mine still crab - mostly when I try to get them out when they don't want to get out. I just say 'no crabbing!' very sternly and they stop right away. To be honest I don't mind the sound - it's pretty cool that something that weighs 4 ounces can make such a noise.

Actually my least favorite sound by far is the barking. I know it's a good natured sound but it's the one sound that wakes me up even behind a closed bedroom door. It's so high pitched and loud and repetitive. I basically just lie in bed and wait for them to stop before I can fall back asleep. Even Sebastian (my cat) makes angree sneers when they start barking at night.

My boy has basically quit crabbing. He has only done it twice in the past month. My girl however still barks every night. (which I love. She has me trained, she barks and I come running.)

Like others I miss it though. I know that it means he is more comfortable with me but I thought it was cute.

I have had them for almost 3months.

My boy doesn't crab anymore, but the girl is a real grump. But, she's still kind of new and I got her at about 9 mo. OOP. She grumbles at him when they are in the pouch - even during the day...."Don't step on me.....be careful.....hey, I was comfortable, stop moving!"

She also crabs when they are in the bonding pouch on me.

With time, the crabbing stops mostly. I thought it would take forever for Frack to stop crabbing and now, like others, I miss it.

I have a grumpy grandma who's been here for 6 years and she STILL crabbs if you walk across the floor wrong! But that's just PePe, she would have been completely happy as a lone glider.

Scarlett crabs and lunges when I put my hand in to get them out. She hasn't bitten me but she is soooooo grumpy and protective over Bonnie that I have a hard time getting to Bonnie. Scarlett curls herself up around her and crabs at me, daring me to just try to put my dirty paws on her precious daughter. I laugh my fool head off when she starts and then I give Rhett a mealie. She flys over to get hers and forgets that she has left her little one. It is a funny sight. I wish I had a video of it.

Mine still half crabb. Kind of a slow yib yib yib yib noise. Usually when they are tired or just waking up. I have not heard a full on crab for some time now.

They are now called Yibbers or yibbits.
