We have had our glider about a week now and we love him like crazy. My husband suggested putting him a hamster ball so he can run around the house safely for exercise.I was just wondering what everyones thoughts are? We have a room that he can have free run in and climb around on everything, but thought it might be fun for him to run around the house other times in a hamster ball. Any thoughts or experiences with them?

Be very, very careful to keep them away from stairs or other things they can fall down...and keep an eye on their feet. Hamster balls can catch their toes/thumbs in the slots and cause some serious cuts (I know because it happened to one of my girls). Also a good idea to keep other animals secured, just in case the cap comes off and they do get loose.

Other than what's already been said, they do pee and poop a lot. I tried the ball out with Badger when he was little but he was peeing and pooping in it and he got very upset..I had to rush him to the bathroom, get him out in a towel, throw the ball in the tub and give him a dry bath with glider dry shampoo..he was MAD!! He was soooo nasty. Poor baby...I never put him in it again. I also worry about toes and nails getting hung in the little slit/holes in those balls. We have to tape the hamster balls shut cause they would bump into something and the top would pop off and they would get loose...grr

i put poor Faye in a ball once, it was pretty big. She explored but would dart to me and bump into me, unable to comprehend why she couldn't crawl up my leg. I retired the ball.

Don't just put your sugar glider in the ball right away. I did that and all they did was go to the bathroom, because they were scared, and sit. I started to hold the ball up to their cage and put treats in it. So they would come out and go in the ball and get the treats. Then I cleared the bottom of the cage out and put the ball open on the bottom of the cage. I would put treats in it, and they love to push it over to get the treats. At this point they loved the ball and don't freak out when in it. If you don't use your ball as an out of the cage toy, use it on the bottom of the cage. It's fun and stimulating for them.
