Just wanted to share a little incident that happened with me last night. I had my 1 year old Pixie in a bonding pouch with a screen built into it. I had her with me all day and later that evening went to take a bath so I left her in the glider room (with the door open) in the pouch. It quite awhile before she would normally get up so I assumed that she would just be sleeping. My husband was at work and I was alone. Thank god both of my large dogs were outside, because when I came back downstairs, Pixie came walking up to me from the completely other side of the house like "Hey mom, what's up?" She had chewed through the screen and gotten out. She likes to play chase, so my guess that she finally just decided to come out when she realized no one was playing with her. Normally, I would have freaked out because we have a 3000 sq ft house with two chimneys and multiple un-glider proofed rooms. If it would have been any other glider who wasn't as bonded, I don't know if I would have found her. However, I didn't even know that she was missing. Anyways, she is the only one of my six gliders who as has ever gotten out of a pouch in 9 years of having gliders. I actually like the pouches with the screens but will not be using those for Pixie anymore and will use caution when I do use them for my other gliders. I consider myself very lucky and wanted to share the lesson that I learned. Don't ever assume that your glider cannot get out of its pouch. Screen or no screen, zipper or velco don't underestimate them. If you are going to leave your glider in a pouch unattended (for the purposes of cleaning it's cage, etc.) act like it could be running free at anytime. You may be suprised to find that he/she is.

Thanks for the warning. Especialy if your gliders are chewers, bonding pouches with screens won't work. Mine are generally not chewers, but when determined (for whatever reason), they have chewed through a couple of my pouches.

I keep a small travel cage just for when I am cleaning the big cages. I have pouch chewers too.

I had this problem also, in turn I dont have pouches with screens (except my sissy pouches) and I have started making pouches with velcro due to one getting her tail caught in the zipper (felt so BAD and no damage thank goodness) and one of my boys got his tooth caught in the prong of the zipper chewing on the side of it. And in all those instances they were with me in the pouch for an outing and I found out the hard way they were chewers because the dont do it in their cages. Thank you for sharing this info so we can all just be aware!

I am glad you found her! Rather, she found you! I don't leave mine in their bonding pouch unless they are on me. I know they would be out of it if they really wanted to be so I don't chance it!

My gliders will dig and chew at zippers until they get them undone..so I cant put them in anything with at zipper at all. They seem to just hate zippers. I have one of the bonding pouches with the mesh window and it has a zipper and they get out the zipper everytime. So we dont use that one ever. I guess everyone has to know their gliders and what they like or are capable of. I am super glad you were soo bonded to your girl that she came to you!!!!

Dexter can unzip his pouch when he wants to as well. Scared the spit out of everyone in Walmart.

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff. Gliders have indentured servants.
Dexter. You left blueberry stains on my wall and pawprints on my heart. I love you Decker-Boy. Full Moon Gliders(Under Construction)
