I know that Zink is no good, and that Stainless is fine, but what about aluminum or brass?
Is there a list of metals that are safe and which ones aren’t?

Nickle plated is also fine. Many bird toys are made with nickle plated metals. I'm not sure about a list of safe metals but I'll see if I can find anything. You could possibly do a google search for bird safe metals. That should bring up something I think.

Yeah, I am really wondering about brass though. I have tried googleing it and the only thing I found was a site that said it was fine, but then went on and said Galvanized is fine also, so I don’t trust the site.
Also, what string do you all use for string beads? Is regular nylon twine with singed edges ok or does it need to be 100% cotton? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />
