These are my gliders first babies and also they were quite young when Nina got pregnant. I remember reading in here that, especially for the first set of joeys to not let the parents get stressed, therefore, not to have people over to see the babies. Well, it`s been 17 days now and so far they are being FANTASTIC parents.

My mom and dad have been very anxious to come over and see these lil cuties before they get big. Is it safe for them to come see them now? They kinda know my mom but not my dad so much, but they have met. Nicky and Nina both are very friendly and always would happily go to my mom or even my aunt which they have only met once. So they don`t seem to be afraid of people even if they don`t really know them. I was thinking of having my parents hand them both mealies if they come see the babies. Does this seem ok? Are they ready for this yet?

I'm not sure about the question (sorry) but I just wanted to say this, sorry if you already know, don't let them handle the babies. The babies will go back to the parents smelling like your parents and that could lead to rejection, or canibalism. Maybe you could just take pics and show your parents those? Sorry I'm not much help. +^_^+ and congrats on the babies.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

The aim of education should be to teach us how to think rather than what to think.

The difference in involvement and commitment is like a ham omelet. The chicken was involved. The pig was committed.

I don't see a problem. I suggest that you have a fleece blanket that the glider family has slept with. Then when you take the joeys out for your parent to see, you can also take the little blanket with them. When you put them back, put the blanket back with them and the glider parents won't have as much of a scent confusion (if they would have any to begin with).

I have always handled my joeys from day one oop. I have let other's handle the joeys as well and never had a problem with the parents being concerned about anything other then grooming the joeys when they get them back. Personally, I think it is good for more then one person to handle the joeys, especially if you are not planning on keeping them. This way, the joey gets used to different human scents and will be less timid about people.

Oh.... we all would love to see some pics of the little glider family too!!!!!!!

Thank you!! I`m sure my parents will just be thrilled!! As for them getting to know other people, I do like that idea, I want them to be friendly as ever, but i have chosen to keep these little darlings in the family, here with me as they are very special to me being NIcky and Nin`s first babies. I will also be making another post very shortly about how I should house them, with mom and dad or a separate cage. I have different thoughts in my head on what I want to do and I definitely will need help to find out what`s safe and who should be neutered. Maybe you could help me with that one too?

Pictures?? Oh I have many many pictures now lol, I also entered one in the "Photo of the week" . I`m not exactly planning on winning as all of them should win IMO cuz they`re all so adorable, but I wanted to show off my lil cuties. I`ll post a few pics here for you. Thanks for your interest, I`m such a pround mama lol.

Here`s another....

I don`t know why some of my pics turn out a little blurry, don`t know if it`s because the babies won`t sit still or something but usually my camera takes beautiful pics. I need to look into this.

Blurry or not, they are ADORABLE!

I also handle joeys early and allow my teenagers to handle them as well just to get them used to humans.

PS: My camera does that same blurry thing when I don't give it time to auto focus...

I have always let people in my family handle the babies but only when they are a little bigger. I get kinda protective when they are so small as if im the parent. If im gonna give them to another family i always let the new parent(s) come over to my house and have small visits in the beggining and then longer ones when the get older. CONGRADULATIONS ON THE BABIES!!!!!!!

I have always allowed people in my family to handle the joeys after their eyes have opened. I myself handle them from day one OOP and I have even rubbed those little bodies as they were hanging all out of moms pouch except for their heads!!

Oh thank you everyone! Also, thank you for the camera tip cycy. I guess I`m not sure how to let it auto-focus lol, I need to figure that out.

I have tried to hold my joeys from day one, but on the first day, they just wouldn`t let go of mom lol. But I was able to handle them on day 2 and I have held them everyday ever since. I think they`re really getting used to me. One of them seems to chose to stay with me when mom leaves while the other one will cling to mom and go with her. I feel so honored lol. I am also very protective of my babies. I haven`t even allowed any of my nieces to handle them cuz they`re too loud and wild lol, but I love them dearly.

All went well this afternoon and my parents are in their glory lol. They both held them and my mom gave them (parents) some mealies. Nina wound up coming out on my dad`s hands to be near her baby but she didn`t seem to have a problem with them holding her babies at all. My parents just loved it and my dad kept going on and on about how tiny they are lol. I`m so glad they finally got to see them while still babies

Thanks again!
This place is great for advice!

It's probably blurry because you are taking the pics too close. If you set the camera to the macro setting it should fix that (sorry photo geek).
