Ok, so, if I ever do get my gliders, I have been thinking that I will at least adopt one from a shelter or something. But lately, I was wondering if it would be possible for a first time suggie owner (who would also be taking care of "normal" gliders as well) to take on an amputee. I just feel that often times these babies may get overlooked because of their "problem", which truly saddens me... So would this be feasible, or is it best left in more capable and experienced hands?

Most tri-pods behave the same as other gliders. Often, once healed, their only limitations are the one's imposed on them by their humans. Some precautions for them are more hammocks in their cages but other than that, they usually do very well being treated like any other glider.

That being said, I would say yes. If you have done your research on gliders and are ready for the challenges that can come with a rescue, then three legs or four shouldn't matter.

Hmmmmm.... Ok then! Its a LOOOOOOONG time till I get my gliders, or any other pet, so I have all the time in the world to research!

EDIT: Also, can they be kept with normal gliders, or will the extra amount of hammocks and such be a problem for them? I seem to recall that thay can be kept together ok, but I'm just wondering.

Yes, they can be with 4 legged gliders.

I placed a tri-pod, Toffee with his cage mate Zoey (4 legged). They live with Brenda and she said they are still doing fantastic together.

Please talk to Val (JackieChansMom) She has SEVERAL wonderful gliders that she has rehabed that need homes. In fact I am adopting a trio from her with one glider that is handicapped.

Still talk to her, she will be able to help you with any medical type questions and give you her experience. She has a lot of experience with gliders and she is a wonderful person.
