Give Gizz plenty of fluids and call the vet. I'm not sure what affect that the excess amoxicillin will have, hopefully getting him to drink as much as possible will dilute it to some extent, but you really ned to talk to the vet for proper steps to take. Let us know how Gizz is doing.

Any news on this little one? I'm anxious to hear what the vet says if overdosed.

Just got back from the emergency vet. She gave him subcutaneous fluids (poor little guy looks like a fuzzy blob with a tail. ) Im to discontinue the antibiotics and monitor him closely for 24hrs. The vet seemed confident that he would be o.k. the biggest concern now is that the natural bacteria that live in him are damaged, but she honestly thinks he'll be o.k.

I would think that yogurt would be of use right now. Yogurt with live cultures may help to replenish some of the good bacteria....... Be sure it doesn't have any aspartame it int. Keep those good updates coming!
On 2nd thought, yogurt may increase the diarreah

At least the vet thinks he'll be OK. We're thinking of you. Please keep us updated.

Gizzmo is readily accepting fruit juice, and eating small bits of honey dew mellon and canned meal worms. I tried to give him some pedilyte (sp?) but he doesnt seem to like it at all (I even tried mixing it with some of the fruit juice I have been giving him) is there anything else i could try to mix it with inorder for him to like it better (I got the fruit flavored pedilyte there were other flavors.. I didnt know which one to choose).. Hes still having diahrreah, but it does seem a little thicker his subcutaneous fluids have all absorbed now and hes acting much better.. Im just still concerned about the diahrreah. I also tried yogart, and he wont get near that either...lol picky glider ...

the yogurt is to replenish the good bacteria in his system. this is must that you find a flavor he likes. also have your vet give baytril intead of amoxicillin, if possible

Bourbon is right. Yogurt contains the cultures needed to reestablish the normal flora in the large intestines. Only when the bacteria that naturally reside in the intestines are back to equilibrium will the diarrhea stop .

Benebac also contains the live cultures that yogurt does as does lactoacidolphus, I think is what it is called. You can get it from your local pharmacy. You sprinkle a small amount over his food, this will also replace the yogurt. Let us know how he's doing! The benebac you should be able to get at your local pet store, I believe it's in the dog care area with the puppy milk replacer. Chey

Wow Chey - I totally forgot about the lactobacillus! I got that for Bugsy (at your suggestion) and it worked great!!!! I highly recommend it - a little dab'll do ya!- about $10 and you get more than you will ever use in a lifetime! It is a human grade dietary supplement.

well gizzmo's diahrreah has finally pretty much stopped, I am still pushing fluids on him to make up for the lost fluids over the last few days. I did mamage to get some yogart in him.. but not the conventional way lol, I accidently dripped some on his tail and naturally being the neat freaks that they are, he proceded to lick it off... hey dont knock it if it works, right? thanks to all of you for your suggestions! I will stop by the pharmacy and pick up that other supplement as soon as possilbe. Thanks again to all , I think gizzmo will be just fine

FYI - the Lactobacillus is mainly to treat diarrhea in the wee ones - if used when not needed it may cause constipation. I know - seems like a vicious circle - eh? If the diarrhea has stopped then I would revert to the yogurt. Perhaps Chey will see this post and give her more experienced opinion soon...

If the diarreah does not clear up by Monday....or becomes severe...suggest going back to the vet. Have a fecal smear done and then have a gram profile done on it. This usually will tell you if bacteria is gram positive or negative. Also the test will tell you if any yeast is present which would be secondary to the bacterial infection. Antibiotics often trigger the yeast to multiply to a state that is harmfull. In the meantime continue the fluid hydration. BenBac can be obtained from most vets who do exotics. Not sure about it being available in pet stores.

the yogurt will replace what was lost, as for the benabac check with your vet, that glider was under vet care in the first place for a reason, don't give anything before talking to the vet.. Thank you charlee !!!

Hope he is ok. Just my two cents, but I've never seen anything perscribed for a glider that was over 0.1 cc. This would be a good thing to keep in mind when you do any liquid injection next time.
