My 7 mth old, Rahja, has a mass on his bald spot. He wont really hold still long enough for me to get a decent look at it. From what I have seen it is: not oozing, black in color, not bleeding, and doesn't seem to be painful. Does anyone know what this might be? Should I take him to a vet?

Without seeing it, or even getting a good description of the mass, it is difficult to say what it could be. Having said that, I would recommend taking Rahja into the vet to have it looked at. Hopefully it's something as innocuous as an overactive scent gland, but always better to be safe where our kids are concerned.

[:"green"]It is difficult to say what it is. The best course of action is to get this little guy to the vet for evaluation. A couple of years ago, my Cricky had a lump on his chest scent gland. The vet thought it was probably an abscess and said she should lance & drain it. Once on the operating table, she found it was actually a tumor (fortunately, it was benign). She had to remove the entire scent gland and some of the tissue around it in order to completely remove the tumor. The moral of the story is: any time there is something unusual, the best course of action is to bring your glider to the vet.
Please keep us posted,

Well said, Suz.

Wow, Suz, you've had everything happen to your gliders, it seems. You must have a fantastic vet, because it seems like you often have a similar story when someone comes up with an unusual problem, and you're gliders have usually been through it and made it. It's always helpful to have someone who's been there when something weird comes up.

[:"green"]PeeperKeeper,
Unfortunately, I have been through a lot with my gliders... I don't know why. Maybe just so I can share with others . I wish I didn't have all these experiences, but at least I can share my knowledge & help out sometimes.

When Cambrin got his bald spot I noticed he had a black line across it, I got worried, b/c I couldn't tell if it was a scratch or what, I jumped online and searched bald spots... one of the threads directed me to BMXgirls glider pages.. she said if the scent gland is overactive it can cause the hair to clump and to take a damp warm qtip to wipe across it... I tried that, and the "scratch" went away.

Don't know if that will help, but that's my only experience with bald spots.

Thank you everyone!
I am going to try to clean it tonight and if that does not help I will take him to a vet.

I will keep you updated on the progress or lack there of.

On another note I think this web site is great. I did a lot of exploring here last night and found a lot a good advice that I wasn't even looking for. Needless to say I will most likely become a regular visitor to this site.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.
