I have 2 joeys only 5 weeks OOP and mom and dad keep going at it...fighting. I just heard them fighting pretty badly and ran to see what was going on when Nicky had Nina pinned down biting her neck. I know this is normal for mating BUT is he raping her?! She does NOT look happy at all! I tried to get him off of her but he won`t give in and I really didn`t think he would. I`m not only concerned about him raping her but I`m also concerned about the joeys! They have been nibbling, mostly licking fruits now but still are nursing. Mom and dad will be at it all night, right?? What should I do about the joeys? Won`t they have to eat tonight? I gave them extra blankets to keep them warm but please help ASAP! I know I`ve heard of mom`s getting pregnant while still nursing their first joeys. What does everyone do about the joeys being in the pouch all alone?!

Take a breath!! Everything will be fine. The moms that do mate while they have young joeys will go back into their sleeping pouch (along with dad!0 and the babies will be able to eat. At 5 weeks old they are not needing food every 2 hours like new borns need.

If you are still concerned that the male is being to rough you could always take her out with her joeys. But I only reccomend this if you think this is not normal matting. Boys will hold on with their teeth to the back of girls neck while mating. Also most of my girls never look like they are having fun while they are mating! lol it looks like they just put up with it because thats the way it is. lol

Thanks Sil!! You even made me laugh, I needed that. OK, as long as I know the joeys will be ok, I`m more relieved. I don`t think he`s being too rough with her, the last time they mated, all was fine and they did fight here and there throughout the night. Their fights get awfully loud though and makes me panic. I wondered if this was coming, they`ve been fighting the last couple of nights and this is what they did the last time. I think this is going to be a long night, it`s hard for me to sleep when this is going on. What really scaress me is when they fight when they`re in the pouch with the joeys. I don`t want them getting hurt but I think it does scare them

I put out a perfectly good dinner for them tonight, looks like it`s all going to go to waste lol

Thanks for putting my mind at ease, I wasn`t sure what I should do

Some gliders don't make a peep while matting and others are loud and sound like they are killing eachother (ok not that bad lol). It sounds like yours our the second of the two I mentioned

You are doing just fine. I was worried the first few times I saw the mating as well. I actually sepereated my male because I thought he was beating her up. I didn't know any better. i soon learned that is what they do.

I sure wish mine were the quiet type lol, just as I laid down in bed last night, they fought like mad cats! You should`ve seen how fast I flew out of my bed LOL! That was the last one though. They were quiet for the rest of the night, thank God

You know how everyone says on those nights their gliders don`t eat very much? Well, I sat till 1:00 a.m. handfeeding Nina scrambled eggs and chicken LOL, I`m sure that was pretty insulting to Nicky but I felt so sorry for the little girl. Around 2:30 or so, I heard them take a break, Nina ran the wheel for a bit and it sounded like every now and then Nicky may have been chasing Nina around the cage, and Nina still didn`t want to give in. Well anyways, just about all their food was gone this morning lol. I also gave them pinkies for breakfast.

Do they mate only once? I only know of this happening once, then the joeys came along I hope I get used to this better, although, I was much better than I was the last time I saw it lol.

Yes they usually only mate once while the female cycles. Each month she cycles so they can mate every month if no joeys drop ip.

A fun thing for me to do is if I catch some of mine mating (I know this sounds rude but it is so funny!!) you offer the male his favorite treat (mealies for my guys) and you can see that they are torn between mating and eating the meal worm. I will usually feed my girls treats while they are mating (if I see it that is)

That is so histerical!! You know it`s funny, I thought of feeding Nina mealies last night, just to try to make light of what was going on. I`m going to have to remember that the next time I catch them he he he ...although I did offer Nicky a piece of chicken and he took it but I think he may have dropped it. I think a mealie would be much more tempting...I may have to pull out my video camera for this one lol.

You know, I just got to thinking. Recently I made a post about how Nina gets nasty when the joeys try to piggyback her. Well last night in the bathroom (this only happens in the bathroom, not in the cage)one of the joeys climbed on her and he acted like a riding bull! She crabbed very loudly and freaked out and just started bucking like crazy! Of course I grabbed the joey and got him off her but I wonder if she acts like that because of Nicky trying to mate with her? What do you think? I`ve seen Nina piggyback once in the cage with no problems and that was it, every other time she gets very upset and wants nothing to do with it.
