My littel mama-girl, Mattie has what the vet says is most likely pnuemonia. My vet (and myself) are very worried about her right now. She is not blue, or "cyanotic" right now, but has a "clicking" in her lungs when she breathes. I noticed she was really not feeling well last night, so off we went at 6:30 this morning. I think I have a curse on my house! On the other hand, her cage-mate and daughter, Nimue, is doing great. She went with mama to the vet for a total check up to make she was ok, and checked out wonderfully. Gave the vet a really hard time weighing her and checking teeth, etc...lol. Little fighter, she is.
Goliath is still holding his own, gained his weight back and only goes once a week now for fluid withdrawals (still at 9-12 cc's at a time, though) We are discussing diuretics <sp>. We did have a culture sent off once he was off his meds for a week, but nothing really showed up that told us (her) anything. Still in the dark, but have narrowed it down to possible haert disease, possible liver disease and/or possible tumor on the liver that didn't show up on x-rays. (sigh)
Oh well, just an update on my crew. Everyone else is till doing well but have apt's for full check-ups soon.

Thanks to all of you. I am afraid she is not doing too well right now, and probably won't make it through the day. But I didn't think she would last all night either, and she did. If she does (fingers crossed) it will be a miracle, but she's a feisty thing and will hopefully hang on for me.

Thanks again to all of you.

I have a call into Dr. Dan Johnson this morning. He will not be in his office until 10:00 a.m., so am waiting for a return call. Thank you, Glider-Angel and Charlee. I hope he can help us and it's not too late.

Bonzai, what an awful year you're having with your crew! I'm so sorry to hear about Mattie.

My vet actually administered Lasix and gave oxygen (as well as antibiotics) when Gladys had fluid in her lungs. Because it was a multi-organ shutdown and not just pneumonia or congestive heart failure, it didn't help considerably, but it was worth it to try....

Please keep us updated.

Lucy,
I thought about you and Gladys when my vet told me, but she didn't think yesterday that she needed oxygen. Her nose was still pink and she wasn't turning blue. This morning however, she is a gray-ish color, breathing rapidly and not really moving well, but she licked some yogurt from me and was nibbling in her food dish when I left, so maybe that's a good sign. I am leaving the office at lunch to check on her, I didn't bring her back to the vet because she would just sit until noon and I do not want her stress levels any higher than they are. Hopefully, Dr. Johnson will call me back and we can get started on helping her more. It has been a bad year for my crew. I am looking for a silver lining somewhere, but it's awful hard to see right now. If worse comes to worse, I will have another angel to watch over the rest.

With a heavy heart I am here to say that Mattie lost her fight at 4:25 yesterday afternoon. She started to crash at noon, I rushed her to the vet's and we had her under oxygen, had gotten in touch with Dr. Johnson and started treatment he described, but it was just too late. My little girl is gone. She is buried with Bonzai, together again, and I know she is romping with him over the Bridge. He must have really missed her to call her home. Thank you all for your concern and support, it's been a rough couple of months. Give your babies hugs tonight.
Melissa

I'm so sorry I truly was hoping for a turnaround for Mattie... You said Bonzai called her home - what a perfect way to see this turn of events! Still, my heart breaks....

Thank you.

What really kills me is that she died at the vet's office, and not home where she knew where she was and felt safe. You always get the "what if's and I shoulda's" I guess, after this happens. Worse, is that I had my daughters and we stopped for lunch before I took her some food for the night. If I hadn't stopped for that, I would have been there when she passed. Nothing like a load of guilt to make it all worse.

I'm so sorry! That is so sad. I know you feel guilty, but you couldn't have known when she would pass. Maybe she was relieved to go and it didn't matter where she was. Anyway, I am so sorry!

Oh my, hang in there Melissa. I am so sorry all of this is happening. Somehow, things happen for a reason, even if we don't know why at the time. Many hugs sent to you. I am so sorry.

This has to be extremly difficult time for you. So so sorry about Mattie passing. At least she did not linger. I pray things will soon be bright for your and your remaining gliders. Sending big hugs of comfort. Hang in there.

Melissa, you would have regretted NOT taking her to the vet if there was something that could have been done -- you did ALL you could and more. My gosh, I'm just so sorry about Mattie and the problems your crew have been having --

Please hang close with us, and let us grieve with you here.

Hugs and prayers,

Thank you guys for all the kind words. Mattie is now at rest beside Bonzai in the rosebush, where they will now be together forever. I was looking at it yesterday and noticed a new bloom is coming up, kind of comforting to see that, like she is telling me it's all ok, silly I know...

We had Goliath neutered on Saturday and will keep Nimue under supervision for 30 days, even tho she checked out just fine. They will be put together to keep each other company after the 30 days is up. No-one has been eating well the past 2 nights, like they know we are grieving and are grieving with us. Silly critters, like I don't have enuff to worry about!
Anyway, thanks again all, I appreciate everything. Hoepfully I won't be back to post bad news for a long, long time.

Thank you. I know she's happy now, flinging around across the Bridge with Bonzi-boy. They always did like to chase each other all over...now they have alot more room and what better place to rest than in His own pocket?
