Here is a picture of a severe case of glider over grooming. Echo went to town on Chase. Had to seperate them until he heals because she just kept opening the wound. The vet did some skin cleaning and told me to put some triple antibacterial ointment 2 times a day on him. He is finally starting to heal and the wound is drying up as you can see in the picture. This is the first time she has ever done this to him. It was first a little spot and then over night she just ripped him up. My poor little boy :-(

More than likely it's either a mating wound or a fighting wound. Yes.. it did start out as just a small hole though the skin. But you're absolutely right. After the initial damage is done.. any other glider in the cage will clean it and clean it to death... and unfortunately only makes matters worse.
Be sure that her fur is mostly grown in before you put her back in with another glider. And then check every day for any new battle wounds (whatever the battle is).. and if it happens again.. I'd agree that it's time for a new friend for both.
I know it probably looks a lot better than it did initially. She'll heal and it will be fine.

Wounds like that are usually seen on females as a result of mateing. The male will wound the female and then over groom her. Keep them seperated for a month or so even after the wound has healed. Then if you decide to put them back together moniter the place closely. Quite often these wounds will appear to be healed but the glider will open it again. I have seen the wounds be reopened even if the hurt glider was placed with a different glider. Charlie H
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOOOO HOOOO, WHAT A RIDE!!!
