My gliders just had two babies oop. A little boy on the 17th and a little girl on the 18th. The first few nights she was WONDERFUL! with the babies and came over when they cried. This afternoon when I went to check on them I saw the little boy at the bottom of the pouch kind of all by himself. I took him and to check if he had the little white tummy which he does a little I can see of. then he started crying and the momma didnt really seem to worried about him, I'm not sure if its cuz she trust me or what but she didnt really come over to see him like she had done the days before. I made some baby food with BML and puppy replacer milk like I had read on anohter post and he ate a little of that but I dont want to over feed him so I'm scared to give him too much... I just dont know if I should leave him in wiht mom and dad or if I should try feeding him every few hours.

(when i did put him back he would go all over mom like he was looking to attach again but then he would just lay in the bottom of the pouch.)

Any help would be appreciated!!

I'm not too sure but from what I've read. You'll need to feed him every couple of hours and make sure he stays warm.

Good luck with your new baby

If mom isnot feeding him at all you need to feed himand keep him warm.Feed him every two hours.
If she is feeding him but just not enough-supplement.Feed him a couple times a day and let mom do the rest.
~hugs~ good luck!!

thank you all very much but I'm really confused.

She feeds him but once he lets go then she ignores him. I will take him out and he will cry at first and Idk if its cuz she trusts me or what but she doesnt even come out to see whats going on. but then he will start feeding again and everything is fine,

I guess everything is fine but I'm going to keep a close eye on everything! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanx.gif" alt="" />

[:"green"]She should not be ignoring him the way that she is. Even though she is feeding him, it sounds like she is starting to reject him. At this point, I would definitely supplement-feed him at least 3 times a day and I would check him multiple times throughout the day to make sure he is staying warm. She should still be trying to stuff him back inside her pouch for the majority of the time since he is only 3 or 4 days oop. Please check out my web-page about Hand Raising A Joey for more complete information about how to know whether he is being fed enough and how much to feed him, etc... If you don't take action soon, you are going to lose this little guy in all likelihood.

Today when I've been checking on him he is feeding and I dont want to pull him. I'm afraid that it would hurt him or his mommy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I guess I just have to wait... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohwell.gif" alt="" />

If you have more ideas or things I should be doing PLEASE tell me!! I love these little guys soo much already <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

One of my females would love on her joeys, but would not really be feeding them,..... just be careful and supplement anyways, to be safe. Her milk may or may not catch up. If it doesn't you'll already have the supplement feeding down. Joeys are hard to start out supplementing, but it does get easier...

I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not but is she a first time mom? When my Lexi had her first babies OOP and I was in the room both parents would go off and play. I was very nervous in the beginning because the babies would start to cry and the parents would ignore them. They were too interested in playing! But eventually they would go back to them if I left the room. I think she thought I was babysitting and they would be fine. They were always full and warm when I saw them though. If their tummies are full and they feel warm to you I think everything will work out...she may just be a little in-experienced. Sometimes when the babies would cry it was just because they missed mom, not necessarily because they were hungry. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, this was just my personal experience.

I think that that is the case because she is very trusting of me and always has been. And yes these are her first joeys. I think everything will be ok but I'm still keeping a close eye on everything. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" />

any updates? How is he doing and mom how is she? THere are lots of people on this board that have lots of experience in hand raising a joey. Just keep asking until you are confident in yourself with what you have to do. It wont be long until the mom will either completely take over or completely trust you to raise her baby. Pleasse be prepared for either situation.
Take care and keep him warm.

Mom and both babies are doing wonderful. She is now out while dad babysits. The little girl started opening her eyes last night which I thought was a little early but I guess not <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> Everything its going wonderful!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/multi.gif" alt="" />

I know this probably isnt a problem but I was wondering if it is normal for her eyes to be open already? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif" alt="" /> She is really beautiful and looks that much sweeter with them open but I was just wondering. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />
