My little fur buttz have been waking up to eat, earlier and earlier every day. Waaaaay earlier! As in three months ago, they were being fed at 11:00. They kept getting up earlier until I was feeding them at 6:00 yesterday! Today, they were all up at 5:45!!! They seem to get up 10-15 min earlier than the previous day and they're doing it within the last couple of weeks, worse than ever! I tried giving them more food, thinking they were hungry and their empty tummies were waking them up but even with the extra food, they're still waking up. Only now, they're getting fluffy! In fact, I took some really close looks when I did my inspections today, to make double sure no one was preggers! And my males are neutered! I'm still not sure about Jaclyn!!! There have been no changes in diet, other animals, food (except extra), cages, toys, etc.

If they keep this up, they're totally going to get their nights and days turned around and wake up to eat at bedtime!!!

Any ideas?????

Wow. That is weird. I know that it's been getting darker earlier and faster it seems (I know it's just that fall thing.) My only thought would be has the lighting in their room or the house in general changed at all. I have all of my cages in a tent in one room and last weekend hubby made a cardboard & plastic cover for the only window in the room to start the fall boarding up for winter weather process.

It was so dark in the room all the time that by Tuesday, I found 6 of my 7 suggies up at 1PM. The only reason the 7th was asleep was because he was STILL up at 10:30 am when I went in there. Now I have to use the light as their sun and turn it on in the morning to get them to go to bed and leave it on all day so they don't keep getting up.

Maybe even some kind of sound changes or your going into their room habits have changed?

Grasping at straws here but trying to help.... crazy

something is changing even if you don't see what it is. suggest: don't change your routine. if it works best for you to feed them at 10pm, i.e., then continue doing so, at 10pm, regardless of their wake up time. it sounds like they always get up 10 minutes prior to whenever you feed them. possible. so that if you change when you feed them, then they change when they wake up, then you change when you feed them, ad finitum in a vicious cycle, until eventually they wake up yesterday. well, that's an exageration. do you really have 23 gliders?

We've had a LOT of rain which has made it cloudy much of the time so it's a bit darker on most days. I wonder if I need to turn a light on in their room until a certain time, to get them back on schedule? It doesn't bother ME but I can't imagine it's good on their bodies to get their days and nights switched since they ARE nocturnal. It's almost like they've forgotten they're supposed to sleep during the day, not hang on their cage bars begging for food like they're starving!

I had wondered about that too but was afraid they'd get hungry so hadn't done that. It's a good idea tho. I have 30 gliders!

HOW do you do it..... *bows to your awesomeness* are they in separate colonies, or all together in a giant suddiedom?

holy cow.

I've got 9 now and I'm thinking that's just about enough (ONLY because I already have 3 colonies and wouldn't want suggies to suffer for my simple lack of time. if I didn't have to work: it'd be a suggieverse in my house.)

as for the waking up earlier thing... I have NO idea. Mine vary a little, but not that often and never in a "pattern".

Awwwwww, shucks! Thank you but it's really not that bad. I don't work so I'm home all the time. I spend nearly every waking hour doing something for my babies. It helps to have a routine and stick to it as close as possible. I have 12 cages but I'm going to be trying to intro duos to each other into quads, starting next week and hope to cut down on the number of cages to make it a bit easier and faster for cleaning, feeding and decorating. I had planned on starting to do that earlier but after my situation with Roo that took 4 weeks, then me getting sick for the following 2 weeks, set me back.

I think I'm going to do as OneMdl suggested. I'm going to slowly back up the time I'm feeding them a little each day until I'm back to no sooner than 9:00. Cross your fingers that I don't have a revolt on my hands! I can already picture them hanging onto the sides of their cages, banging their food dishes back and forth across the bars! Little stinkers. Wonder how on earth they managed to get so spoiled??? dunno shakehead smirk

I've had the same problem, and this is exactly what I did.

My room has timers, lights go off at 10pm, lights come back on at 10am (by then the sun is through the windows anyway)

Works great.

Scout did the same thing as he aged his first year... now, Gracie gets up about 9:00 and everyone else about 11:00 and then they all go back to bed for "naps" and get up again and again through the night. Scout still wakes me for one-on-one time, too... usually arounf 2 am now. Then, when I get up at 5:45 every morning, the whole crew (sometimes everyone but Sparky) is plastered tot eh cage bars begging for their morning mealies, and then everyone is back to bed by 6:30 am

I'm glad I saw this post
Lol! I WISH my guys would get up earlier. They keep pushing later and later. Annie will get up at like 10:30 and Jane is more of like a 11:45 girl.
It's unfortunate because my husband loves to play with them but we own our own business and he has to be up at like 6am to get to work on time...and to be honest by the time Jane is starting to gear up I am just pooped out myself!!
I would love if they could get a more consistant schedule..but...shrug....what can you do...
Good luck with 30 of them. ha,ha just my 2 make my head spin around like the exorcist!!

So, Julie.....what are you trying to say, exactly? roflmao Since most of mine are rescues, I'm going to say they came to me that way and the rest of my babies saw them being spoiled and decided they wanted to be spoiled too. It was completely and totally out of my hands. I had no choice but to accommodate them in the style of living they had become used to. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! smile grin

Last night, they were fed 15 minutes later than their "normal" time. Except for all of them clinging to the cage bars, so I wouldn't miss their empty, growling tummies and poor emaciated bodies, they were none the worse for wear. Tonight, the clock rolls back another 15 minutes.

If only they wouldn't LOOK at me with those sad, starving, pitiful eyes, this would be so much easier!

Too funny Connie! You do know that you brought this on yourself....feeding them all of their favorite things. They just can't wait to wake up and see what mom has for them. Abeje was even practicing the pitiful, sad, and starving look in her eyes while begging for an early dinner, before she even arrived at your house, lol. I felt like a bad hostess making her wait 10 min while I scrambled. Someone must have clued her in on how to play it :-)

LOL! She STILL gives that look!

So far, I've slowly moved the time back to 6:30. Tried 6:40 one day and they had a seriously major problem with food aggression in three cages!!!!!!!

In fact, my sweet little BamBam even made a threatening noise I'd never heard before, when I tried to set an extra dish in for Pebbles cause he wouldn't let her eat!

Had to put two extra dishes in for Ivory, Dazzle and Jaclyn cause Ivory wouldn't let the girls eat!

In the third cage, Jasper wouldn't let his son Cal eat, so they got an extra dish too. Odd thing is, Jasper tried to stop Sarah (his wife who is half his size) from eating. Tiny, quiet Sarah gave him what for and made HIM wait til SHE was done eating before she LET him eat! roflmao

Moved the time back to 6:30 the next day and everyone was fine! dunno
