Priscilla Diet Changes Question #855429

I was just wondering if anyone has been able to understand why the Applesauce has been doubled in the new recipe?

I also have another question that is a bit more important. I have been using the McCain frozen orange juice with added calcium because it is the only one that is available in my area and I am concerned about how much vitamin D is also in it. The requirements for vitamin D of a nocturnal animal like a Sugar Glider would be fairly low and there is an awful lot of vitamin D in this orange juice. I know that too much vitamin D can actually be used as a rodenticide so my question is should I continue using this orange juice or would it be safe to use something like Tropicana orange juice with added vitamin C? The Tropicana stuff is not frozen so it would not be the same amount of concentrated juice in my mix but would it still accomplish the same thing (adding calcium and vitamin C) but be safer?

The 'new' recipe is for a larger batch, but is basically the same recipe. The diet is designed to provide variety. If you have questions you should ask Priscilla, I recently had some questions myself and received a detailed response regarding the diet. Too much vitamin D could be a problem, I suggest working with Priscilla and your vet if you are going to try to modify the diet.

The Recipe appears to have been CHANGED when the new mixing instructions were posted.

It states at the top of the page that the "recipe has not changed".

The more than doubling the applesauce and adding an additional amount of fruits and vegetables with other ingredients (especially the OJ, Chicken and egg) remaining the same is a substantial change to the recipe that Priscilla originally had posted on her web page.

Several people, myself included, have asked Priscilla to look at the changes to her recipe and to either correct it or clarify that the great increase in applesauce is what she intends for the recipe to be. So far she has not responded to those requests. It would be helpful if Priscilla would respond here to clear up the confusion.

Without changing ALL ingredients proportionately, This is not just a recipe for a larger batch. Increasing the applesauce and vegetables but not the chicken or egg amounts dilutes the protein content from the amount in the original recipe.

I have my notes on Priscilla's diet in which I reduced the proportions by 1/3 because I do not like to make and store very large batches of anything. Hope this helps.

Be sure to order the vitamins from Priscilla's web page also as the diet is incomplete with out her specific vitamin mixture to be sprinkled on each serving.

The Pet Glider (Priscilla's diet)
Reduced proportions by 1/3)

Presentation:
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 TBS Dannon non-fat plain yogurt
2 TBS concentrated calcium fortified orange juice, no water added
8 TBS Old Fashioned Oats (NO QUICK COOKING OATS)
1 tsp fresh ground flax seed or wheat germ, refrigerated
In a large mixing bowl, with a wooden spoon, mix the applesauce, oats, yogurt, wheat germ and orange juice. Divide into two equal portions.

To portion one, add: 1 small or medium egg, scrambled.
To portion two, add: 1/4 cup unseasoned, unsalted, broiled shredded chicken.
Add 1/4 cup various chopped or precut fruits and 1/4 cup vegetables to each portion.

Freeze flat in quart size freezer bags (1/2" or less thick). If you choose to use pre-cut frozen produce, do not use vegetables which have a high ratio of corn.

Break off a frozen piece of the basic mix.

Daily Vitamin/Mineral Supplement
The Pet Glider Complete" Multivitamin, sprinkled on food.
