I've been on pins and needles now for 5 days. Every day I check to see if my joeys are still alive and if mom/dad are still are taking care of them. I hate looking into the pouch not knowing. Mom/Dad never bring them out of the pouch with them.
When are you out of the woods??? Is there a time frame on the parents eating the joeys?

Unfortunately, there is no set time frame when joeys are safe. Generally, if a glider is going to reject it's babies, it will do it sooner rather than later, but there are exceptions to everything. I've heard of parents canabalizing 6 week OOP joeys... But, that's not the norm. Usually after they open their eyes, they are out of the woods.

My husband has more experience with joeys than I do, and he told me he would feel a great sense of relief once the joeys are past their 5-week OOP mark. Their parents will and can cannabalize their joeys if they sense something wrong with them.
Like Leyna said, the parents usually reject their joeys sooner than later.
In my opinion, the joeys are out of the woods when they are weaned from mom, at about 5-6 weeks OOP, when they begin to eat solid food.

[:"green"]Generally speaking, what everyone has said is true... It is possible that the parents might reject a joey up to 5-6 weeks oop, but it is not very likely. In most cases, if a joey is going to be rejected, it occurs within the first two weeks oop. The fact that they are not letting you see the joeys yet is a factor on the good side - they are being protective of them. As long as you are able to reach into the pouch & check on them, you are doing fine. If they start to leave the joeys alone in the pouch for extended periods, that may be a concern, but that doesn't sound like what you are experiencing. So, relax a bit. Take a deep breath. Just continue to be vigilant in checking on them... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hug2.gif" alt="" />
