Fortunately, Neither Hiroshi nor Keiko have internal parasites, but how is it that our gliders get these buggers? It seems if one is sick with these, the other could get them, so it's best to keep them separate. If they're never in contact with other sick gliders, how do they get these internal parasites? Just curious.

Parasites commonly find their way into our wee ones via contaminated water and fruits. That's why bottled water is safest and frozen fruits and veggies are wise. There are other means of contact, I'm sure, but a suggie in a cage and play area, well, doesn't seem very likely to me that they would come in contact with other animal feces, etc.

Giardia is always present in the gliders system, unless recently eradicated with medication. Many things can trigger an explosion of the parasites. It is not uncommon for a glider that is moved from one owner to another to have a light attack. Stress will bring it on. Also water or food that is left in the cage too long. Cages and toys not being cleaned regularly. I am in no way suggesting that you do any of these things, only pointing out how easy it is for a glider to get giardia. The organism can be spread in so many ways, simply by walking through an area that is contaminated and carrying it into your house on your shoes. It is easily spread, much like viruses.

Wow, thanks guys. Scary stuff. Fortunately, both Keiko and Hiroshi are healthy and happy. I was just curious, as I've been reading about parasites in some of these threads. Definitely a good reason to practice good hygiene with our cherished ones!
