Everyone here knows that gliders can be/are a joy to have and be around. BUT, of course, they do have their cons. What do you not like about having sugar gliders? Some of mine are: Bites hurt. I don't particularly like when they pee on me, but it's not that big of a deal. Sometimes feeding them, especially when I'm laying down ready to go to bed, and they bark at me to say, "Hey, stupid, do we get to eat?" So I have to get up and run downstairs to make their breakfast. The rare occasions they bark for hours on end and deprive me of sleep and I'm forced to go to bed in another room.

Cost! Expensive little buggers, with expensive needs and expensive vet visits. Too wriggly--sometimes they just don't want to stay in their pouch and it's usually at the most inconvenient times that they want to crawl on your head, go hoodie-diving, and squirm around making noise. Food preparation.. BML is MESSY no matter how I made it and it stinks. At least I never had to worry about my roommates wanting to snack on the glider food.

I think for me probably because I have 6 cages, I would say having to clean the cages....lol. Everything else is manageble and I don't get bit often unless you count getting nipped when clipping nails. I wish I had more time in my day to spend with them.

People that don't even TRY to understand my love for my glider kids, some family memebers included. I wish they were less complicated with diet and health or at least that we knew much much more than we do now. grrr..

Cleaning!! I've been super busy with work lately and am managing to play with them but, cleaning is making it hard. I'm either working or too tired from working to clean. I love cleaning their cages, it's just finding time. Feeding them as soon as I get in the door is a pain in the butt too. I've been cutting up fruits and veggies every night for a week now because I haven't had the time to make a batch and freeze it. >.< They eat before I do and always have.

Cleaning their cages and toys & doing their laundry. But the absolute worst part is, when they have medical problems. It rips my heart out to see them in pain, having to force them to take medicine or wear an ecollar, and know they have no clue why mommy is doing it.

I love my gliders dearly. so not many cons here.
My male is easy but my female shes a pain with nail clipping and loves to bite when I check her pouch in the morning.
The unexpected medical bills are hard. My lil girl finn had her leg removed.
Everything else I love doing for my babies. But I have to say they truely own me.

Cleaning all 7 of the cages - especially since I have a bad back! I can't move cages into the bathroom by myself. So I have to wait until my son can help me. Then, during BIG clean day - bending over the bathtub scrubbing toys just puts my back into spasm for the rest of the day! I do a lot of spot cleaning, and I have a LOT of toys, so that I can rotate them. Clipping nails is not my favorite- but it is do-able.

I'm with Anna and Nicole on the cleaning. I have five cages, only 2 girls. Boys are extra smelly when you get that many in one room. Because I'm a bit OCD on cleaning, it takes me FOREVER. Wednesday wipe downs are nothing but Saturday I go crazy! I can do the barking since mine are in their own room. Boomer was possesive over me when i first brought him home, so he would bark if I even left my bedroom.

Definitely not being able to go out of town. I have a timeshare on the Outer Banks and I actually can't spend time on vacation because I have to take a week at a time. I could give the chins a weeks worth of food and water no problem, but I can't be gone for more than a day due to the gliders. I worry about finding someone to take care of them when I go to the MCBA and ECBC nationals next year because I'll be gone 2-3 days due to the long drive across the US. I can't find anyone in my family who I can trust with them yet.
I'm not a fan of the food throwing either. Sometimes it seems that they try to throw it directly at me.

I love everything about mine but this. hmmmmmmmmm, can't think of anything I don't like. So guess that's my answer. Oh wait, one thing I do hate is not being home before they get up so that they have their food ready to eat when they get up. I forget to take out the previous days food dish before I go someplace and am afraid they will eat that before I get home. But it doesn't happy often. I just need to remember to remove it if I will be home late. (they get up at 7 pm now (daylight saving time). Used to be 8pm so have to adjust to the time change.
As time goes by and my loves pass. I will forever be greatfull for the time we had together. I will see you soon my loves.

I forget to take out the previous days food dish before I go someplace and am afraid they will eat that before I get home. That's a MAJOR paranoia of mine! I've even called my ex to go over to my house and remove food bowls when I couldn't get home before they woke up!

tough question, lol. i don't mind the rambunctious cage noise, i sleep like a rock don't mind the cleaning, feeding or time and money spending. the happy feeling of knowing i'm being the best mom i can be makes these things actually fun for me. i used to sort of mind the insects, but i'm over it now. it seems the only thing i dislike is how much i worry when i'm away for the night!

Biggest con for me: Their food is perishable, which means you can't set it out too early. If I have all evening plans, I have to make sure I don't leave too early (before 5) and if I am leaving earlier than that, that I at least come back home between 6-8 so they can have their breakfast! So, having to be home at some point in the early evening every single day, and I also agree with the going out of town part.

I guess the worst thing for me would be, when I want to hold them and they insist on jumping on things in a 4ft radius. That makes me crazy, lol. My girls are WAY worse than my boys though...

I love all of it, except cleaning cages. I pay my son to do it. I have a bum shoulder right now, so I have a good excuse. When I leave town, I'm fortunate enought to have my sons here t do it. If I could not leave, It would be a big Bummer too.

The only thing I dislike about being a glider owner is the occasional person in the glider community who begins to believe that they are "God's gift to gliders" and then starts criticizing, nit-picking, and/or trying to control the people around them because they have become delusional enough to believe that THEIR way of doing things is the ONLY way of doing things... if they can't control you, make you do what they want, and make you do things their way... they try to make you look bad or feel bad or to discredit you. That kind of person is really the only thing I dislike... and I absolutely LOVE my gliders!!!

Knowing that my babies won't live for my entire life. That is the one thing I don't like. Knowing someday I will be walking in the shoes of so many others before me, saying goodbye with a broken heart. Just reading others goodbyes and feeling their heartache brings me to tears so I can't even imagine the hurt when I face that day.
If someone in the glider community could figure out how to add about 40 years to a gliders life expectancy I'd be a happy woman.

What don't I like...not being able to understand glider! It is less of a problem now but when I was first bonding to my gliders I was so very frustrated! Why didn't they just jump on me and let me love on them, how could they not know that all my huge pink face wanted to do is rub them on my cheek and give them kisses? And of course it is VERY irritating when someone calls my babies rats.
