I have had my gliders since saturday, and i know that they are stressed over the move and the new caregiver, ect. So i found an article that says put some apple cider vinegar in their water, because it will help reduce the risks of getting stress related injuries in the stomach and intestines.

There is the article, anyone do this?

I did do this for about a year when I was a newbie but chose to stop using it a little over 2 years ago.

I only use a couple of drops in an 8 ounce water bottle. It helps kill bacteria. smile We only use spring watered bottled here.

I use it for most of the other animals and you'll find it argued on pretty much every animal board from pets to livestock. ACV helps prevent parasites and pests internal and external and flavors the water. Not as important for sugar gliders but when we have a big horse show and have to travel we put acv in the horses water at home and at the show. If the water tastes too different the horses may not drink enough and can dehydrate and "tie up" or colic during competition. ACV hides the taste difference and makes all water smell and taste similar. Some studies have shown it helps lower blood glucose in diabetics, blood pressure, and cholesterol. However other studies have shown long term use or too much ACV can cause low blood potassium and bone density but this is for people forcing themselves to take teaspoon to tablespoon fulls daily or in pills. If you are putting it in the water most animals will refuse to drink before taking too much ACV. That does create a danger of dehydration if they don't have a plain water bottle around.

If you get the kind that isn't strongly filtered it also contains many vitamins and minerals along with bacteria that is good for the digestive tract helping to prevent digestive upset. The filtered stuff sold in the regular section of your grocery store has most of that removed. If you look in the health food or organic section you might find a small bottle of the unfiltered stuff. A bit expensive for livestock uses although I know some with small flocks of chickens use it but it would last sugar gliders forever.
