My male is starting to really mark my female, and other things. He rubs his head, and chest on everything including her. This makes no sense, because he is neutered. I had them since the beginning of October, and he never did this before. Of course, he hasnt marked me yet I understand why he is doing it, but I dont know why he is doing it because he is neutered I adopted a intact male, and female with their 2 joeys 4 days ago. Ever sense I got them he has been doing this. He marks my female, the tent we play in, and everything in it. I never seen this crazy side of him before. He is usually very calm. Because the 2 adult gliders I got are very social, I started tent time with them after 2 days. They were jumping all over me the first night. Tonight was the second night, and the female did the "booty dance" on me for quite a while, which was so funny and cute at the same time. That made me feel so good After 4 days she is letting everyone know I belong to her. Thats some quick bonding When I put my new male, and female in the tent they both mark it like crazy. Now when I put the other 2 I already had in the tent, the male is marking things which he never did before I got the other 2. I am wondering if this is normal? Do neutered males mark things? I thought once they were neutered, they dont do it anymore.

Your little boy still has hormones and still has the desire to mark his environment and things in it. Being neutered won't affect that behavior or his desire to stake his claim on what he feels should be his. After your newbies are properly introduced, you may notice your male's marking behavior diminish a bit. Right now he's probably feeling a bit threatened by the new gliders (especially the intact male) invading his space. Gliders are very scent oriented, so his marking behavior is indeed natural. Know that, even though all of your gliders are not playing together (e.g., in the tent), a true quarantine means there should be no mixing, including environments, until you are absolutely certain everyone is healthy and free of parasites or diseases that could be transmitted to the others. If you haven't yet, you'll want to make sure everyone gets examined by your glider-knowledgeable vet.

I know my gliders are healthy, and the 4 gliders I got from "Julie (partyofsix)" are also healthy so I know I dont have to worry about the quarantine. I just wont be putting them all together for quite a while, they do not like each other. I may never put them together, I havent decided yet. All I hear them doing is telling each other off

That's good they are all healthy. Stress can compromise their immune systems (just as with us) so a vet check is always a good idea (especially when you see behavior changes in eating and grooming habits). It also helps establish a baseline of health and a relationship with your vet should you find yourself in need, especially in the event of an emergency. They may never like one another, but following proper introductions may greatly increase the odds they do. Here are some links with tips: • Introducing 2 Gliders• How do I go about introducing new sugar gliders?• Extreme IntroductionsIt would probably be best to keep the new pair separate, unless you plan to neuter the male. The intact male could try to mate with all females in the cage, causing problems down the road. Good luck!

My Rufio is doing the same thing! He never marked at all until I got Tink. Now that I am doing intros he is marking everything she has touched, lol! He is neutered too.
Once everything is playing nicely, I'm sure it will calm down. Although some gliders will continue to mark their humans as theirs. It's a sign of love and you are part of their colony!

When a new male is introduced into the house (neutered or not) the original male, particularly if he was the only male previously, will often go crazy marking his cage, cage mate and environment because he wants there to be no confusion what is his. Even if you do not smell them, they can very strongly smell each other (they are a very scent oriented little animal). As has been said, neutered or not, many males keep up most behaviors because they are in large part instinctual. Some neutered males, even when neutered young, will even mate female cage mates. If they are neutered after they reach sexual maturity, many males will still mate and aggressively mark their territory. I even have a female that started rubbing her head all over her mate and son when a new female came into the house (so it isn't just males sometimes ).

My little leu boy is neutered and he loves to mark. Last night I even caught him doing it on the outside of his cage while I was putting the food in (he likes to run out and greet me when I open the cage). The little butt dance is so cute.
