I do not use sprays or poisons because of my animals. but this is getting ridiculous. the mosquitos are everywhere, my legs and arms are covered in bites, not just little bites, giant red welts. and at night when im trying to sleep i can hear, zzzzzz. zzzzzz buzzing past my ear.

what can i use to get rid of mosquitos? plants i could put around my house? or citronella candles? even if i got some of those citronella torches that you put outside your house and they smoke and mosquitos go away.

but is this safe for animals? is there anything else i could use?

FIRST, check to see if it's on the safe plant list. I'm not sure where that link is or I'd find it or you. Lemon begonia plant is a natural mosquito repellent. You can also crush the leaves and rub onto your skin and clothing.

You can rub lemon peel on your skin and clothing (check a small patch on the inside of your elbow for skin sensitivity for 24 hours for redness or swelling and it might stain clothing).

The following, I know will work. I DON'T know if they're glider safe but maybe someone else does and can tell you.

Until you know for sure these are glider safe, don't try any of these.

Avon SOS (Skin So Soft). You apply it to your skin and wash off later.

Listerine mouthwash. Spray the area around you and they'll stay away.

There are several different formulas you can make, for a natural mosquito repellent. In general, what you're doing is diluting an essential oil that the mosquitoes find nasty tasting or it confuses them so they can't find you. The oils don't mix with water, so you'll need to add them to other oils or to alcohol.

The essential oils that work well against mosquitoes are:
cinnamon oil
lemon eucalyptus oil
citronella oil
castor oil

Safe carrier oils and alcohols include:
olive oil
sunflower oil
any other cooking oil
witch hazel
vodka
Yes, I said vodka. LOL!

If you are making large amounts of mosquito repellent, a good rule of thumb is to mix the repellent, 1 part essential oil with 10-20 parts carrier oil or alcohol. For example: I mix tea tree oil with Vit E for earaches, fever blisters, scratches, acne, etc. I use 1 drop tea tree oil to 20 drops Vit E. With essential oils, a little goes a LONG way

Mix the essential oil with the carrier oil or alcohol. Rub or spray the natural insect repellent onto skin or clothing, avoiding the eyes. You'll need to re-apply the natural product after about an hour or after swimming or exercise. Unused repellent may be stored in a dark bottle, away from heat or sunlight.

I was going to say to cover the cages in a masquito netting, also dryer sheets work as a masquito repelant. I will rub it on my clothes and then stic it in my back pocket. You could try that around the cage where the gliders can not reach the actual dryersheet?????

i should also add flies to this, they are annoying me also.

the gliders arent bothered by mosquitosor flies, but i am.

they are in my house and need to leave, it looks like i have chicken pox.

i just want to save myself, without harming the animals.

do drier sheets have a different name?

They're also called fabric softener sheets. I sure hope something works for you!

ok i went and bought some non-toxic fly papers, they are those sticky strips you hang and flies stick to them.

i figured if theyre non toxic, and dont put off any smell and arent near the cage then it should be fine.

i hung one in the lounge, one in the kitchen, and one in my room where the swarm was. in the first 5 minutes id already caught 3.

in the lounge now, ive caught 4, in my room, 17, and only saw 3 rogue ones left.

yay. hopefully by tomorrow night theyll all be gone.
