OK.. i've read the post about using the sanitized dish and holding your glider over it. but, what if that doesn't work. how does the vet get the urine? he can't catherize can he? how have some of the rest of you collected urine to take to the vet?

You can try catching it in a steralized cup.....that's the way I did it. I will warn you tho.....it's not easy.

My vet just has me get my gliders out of their pouch on to a steral metal counter top and when they pee, she pipetts it up and squirts it into a little vile...

I wash a small plastic critter keeper real well and dry it. Add glider, wait and then suck it up with a syringe. It works for my vet.

Good idea Carrie I'll have to remember that. It sounds much easier than trying to catch it in a cup!

If all else absolutely fails, the vet can insert a syringe into the bladder to withdraw a sample (Riker wouldn't produce one with a very bad UTI once, and we had to obtain it that way). Not my first choice, definitely, but it is an option.

ok.. that sounds good. I tried with him on the perch once, waited with a dish under him for over an hour, nothing! my arm fell off but was able to sew it back on

Sometimes, when they don't want to go...they really DON'T want to go! LOL The vet assured me that once he went under for Xrays (since all else had failed) he "guaranteed" he'd get a sample. NOT! When Riker doesn't want to cooperate, he's one stubborn little guy. We really needed that sample, tho, so that's how we got it. He had a really bad UTI, very alkaline, and crystals present in the urine (once we got it)..and it really hurt to go, and he absolutely refused...the fact he really, really hates that particular vet probably didn't help either. Good luck-and glad the arm went back on with no problems!

We wait until they wake up. When they jump on our shoulder, and the tail raises, get ready because here it comes. A mid-stream, clean catch specimen is much preferable to pan collected urine.
