I got a chance to weigh the joeys this morning during mealie time , the boy is 15g, but the little girl is only 10g, is that OK for 5 days OOP? I checked the joey development page and it says 12 to 16g, but it does not say what age they should be that. It was alittle chilly on the scale and they were really moving and screaming, so I did not get a chance to check them out much, before Dad started going nuts in the cage. I put them back fast. (Stitch, the dad, is usually so mellow. What a protective dad he now. )

I think as long as they are eating well, you should be okay. Keep checking the weight to see if they are gaining, and if they are then I wouldn't be too worried. You can increase the protein for the mom to help her with milk production or give her a bit of wambaroo in her BML

[:"green"]It is somewhat normal for there to be a slight difference in weight between twins, but I think that at 15 & 10, this is more than slight. I would probably supplement the little girl some to see if it helps her to catch up to her brother.

How often should I suppliment her? There are very few times a day that they do not have their heads in mom's pouch, I assume nursing. In fact, the only time I see them not attached is first thing in the morning when Ayla comes out for mealies.
Ayla would definately not mind more mealie times I guess

Also, for supplimenting, is vanilla ensure or puppy milk best? I got both earlier, just in case.

[:"green"]For supplementing, you should try to do it 3 or 4 times a day. You can use either the Ensure or the Puppy formula - either one works fine. The gliders tend to prefer the flavor of the Ensure though.

This is NOT going to be easy. I woke mom and dad up this afternoon with a bowl of mealies, so I could get Charm out to suppliment and both babies were hanging on to mom with everything they had. Ayla moved wrong and Charm fell off! Thank goodness I had the "No Sew Hammock" / "Baby Catcher", up and she fell into it. I got her out and weighed her again and she is still 10g, so I tried using a very small (2ml)syringe with vanilla ensure. But I do not think I got much in. I looked at her belly and it already looked full, so she must have just eaten from mom. How do you glider grandmas do this? I can not wake everyone up every couple hours to see if she has eaten yet. Stitch is becoming a nervous wreck, everytime I take one of the babies out, he runs around the top and sides of the cage like a mad man, trying to grab at my shirt and barking.

I NEED SUPER NANNY I am supposed to be the lucky one.... Everyone likes everyone, no one gets sick, joeys are all fat and happy....I do not think I am asking to much here

[:"green"]Don't despair - everything will be okay. You really don't need to check on her every couple of hours - every 4 or 5 hours should be fine since she is obviously still eating from Mama. You're doing great!

My joeys weigh 14-16 grams their first say out of pouch. All of them since we use a high quality diet and human grade vitamins tailored to the need of gliders. But this is the normal weight range of my joeys on day one oop.

My parents are really good weights, 120 to 130 g each and they eat a mix of fruits, veggies, Wambaroo high protein, Eucalyptus Bee Pollen, Acacia Gum, scrabbled eggs, human grade calcium, wheat germ, oatmeal, yogurt and applesauce everynight. I give mealies and sometimes yoggies in the mornings.

I am still having a really hard time supplementing the girl joey, she is very stuborn. She keeps trying to nurse on the fleece blankie I hold her in, so I put a drop on the blankie and she gets some in that way. I have started getting mom up twice a day and giving her extra mealies and some ensure while I check the joeys. I think it is helping her make more milk, because both joeys seem to be doing really well. Active and squirming alot. They are both growing also.
I know I should not be messing with mom's diet, but if it helps the little ones and it is only for a few weeks, I don't think it can hurt that much.
This mornings weights were Lucky-20g and Charm-15g. Maybe my scale is off. Can they gain 5 g in 2 days?

If you hold the joey in the palm of your hand and scoot the milk into her mouth she will start to sip the milk up. At least this is what I have learned. Also is that an actual proven diet they are on or your own diet? That could be the key. Something that has been used for many years compared to something that was just come up with. I just have not seen this diet before which is why I am asking.

Thank you for your help, I think we are over the hurdle. I did not suppliment the girl at all yesterday as she has already caught up with the boy. They are 19 and 20g and seem VERY healthy. I think I was just a nervous first timer. The diet I have all my gliders on is from Kayla at http://kaylasglidergoodies.com/Diet.htm. It is wonderful. They did not like any of the others I tried.

I will continue to watch the twins and weigh them everyday just to make sure but mom and dad are taking really good care of them now. This morning during mealie time, Stitch (dad) was carrying mealies to Ayla (mom) while she layed on her back in the net feeding the babies. It was SOOOO sweet. If I had not been so busy watching, I would have loved to have gotten a picture.

Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions.

[:"green"]Actually, boosting her protein intake with Ensure and mealies is exactly what you should be doing . Keep up the good work! I know you are feeling frustrated, but don't give up - it will be well worth it in the end!!!
