I have had my baby girl for just over a week now and she was sleeping in the pouch the breeder gave me but now she is not. I feel bad because she has been sleeping during the day on the bottom of her cage (I have fleece over the wires) or in her wheel! Neither of these places seem soft, warm, or comfortable. Nothing seems to be wrong with her pouch, should I try washing it?
Thanks for any help!

My thought would be that she's missing her family, and is feeling somewhat depressed. If she's alone, you might want to try and carry her around with you during the day in a secured bonding pouch.

You could wash her pouch, but before you put it back, turn it inside out and wipe it around her cage to try and get some of her scent on it. Also, you could get a small child safe stuffed toy to put inside for her to cuddle with.

It will take sometime for her to relax, and feel comfortable. Just be patient, and spend as much time with her that you can. This will help her not to feel so alone.

Some gliders like fresh pouches regularly, so this may be part of her problem. To help with the scent, as Linda said, try rubbing the inside of her pouch on the cage after you have washed it. In the future, you can also use blankets and/or a cuddle buddy. When you clean the pouch, you can transfer the cuddle buddy and/or the blankets to the new pouch so it still smells like her, then change the blankets in-between pouch washing so her scent is always in the pouch with her, but her sleeping place stays clean.

Another thought, has she had a vet check yet? Some gliders will start sleeping in different places (like the bottom of their cage, wheel, or food bowls) because they are sick. If you haven't had her vet checked, I would take her in for a general wellness exam and fecals to be sure that everything is ok with her health wise.

Let us know how she is doing! Congratulations on your new family member! smile

Thanks for all of the help. I followed your instructions and washed her pouch and rubbed it around her cage and she has started to sleep in it a bit more now. I also used a hanging food bowl that came with her bird cage and lined it with lots of fleece and now she seems to like cuddling in that more than anything. I guess Bella may just like sleeping in her new bucket instead of her pouch. I am also going to try and book her for a wellness exam next week just to make sure she is alright. Thanks again!

I have two hanging pouches in my girls cage. They will sleep in one and when they abandon it and move to the other one I know it's time to wash it. I also wash all of my glider stuff in the smell free/dye free soap. I found when my mom watched them when I went on vacation, she washed their stuff in scented soap and they wouldn't touch anything!! A strong soap smell could be your problem too?
