Okay, my 5 year old glider just threw up and had diahrea! She drank some water and is not dehydrated. She's on the HPW diet. The emergency vet does not see exotics, already called!! and we're expecting a big snowstorm here...what do i do to help her now and if vets offices are closed tomorrow and i can't get her in? I'm kind of panicking thinking about that! ironically enough i just called to today to get both of my gliders their yearly wellness exam, which is next week!! any help will be greatly appreciated!!

anybody? I don't mean to sounds pushy, I'm just worried, she's in her pouch sleeping and seems to be acting okay, but I just want to make sure I do everything I can before she sees a vet.

Are there any other e- vets in your area you can get to? Even if it means driving tonight? Vomiting is generally not at all a good sign :/ Make sure she stays hydrated in the meantime. Keep a close eye on her because she could aspirate her vomit. Good luck! She really needs to see a vet soon though, but you already know that.

unfortunately there are no other emergency vets near by that will see exotics...and there's already about 2 inches of snow on the ground...i'm keeping her on me to make sure she stays warm and giving her water...i just feel so helpless, but first thing tomorrow morning i'm calling my vet to get an appointment for tomorrow if they're open!

u need to get a fecal float with gram stain also a fecal culture and sensitivity. you can also run a snap test for giardia. diareah is not good she need to be put on meds asap. they can dehydrate from diareah. i would also have a urinealysis done it could be something else too these tests will check alot.

Aryn, if she is acting normally, and the vomit was a one time episode, you could watch and wait. It's better to go right away, but your physical safety is more important. Watch and wait, see how she does. Push fluids, keep her warm, and avoid sweet and salty snacks (yogies and mealies) for tonight. Gatorade or Pedialyte is your best bet fluid wise, but any water or half water/juice will work.

You've been given great advice. Keep a close eye on her tonight, especially with keeping fluids in her. Also, if the diarrhea continues, you can give her a flake or two of 'old fashioned' (not instant) oatmeal, or canned pumpkin (the kind without spices). If you have yogurt, offer a little of that too.
I hope that she's alright.
Moving this to health and hygiene now.

she did fine through the night, was never lethargic and didn't have any more diarrhea, I'm still going to try and get her into the vet today to make sure nothing more serious is wrong. Thanks everyone for your help and prayers!

welp, vet can't see her until Thursday, and I have to drop to her off so they can her under and run test (she isn't exactly the most people friendly glider and has an extreme aversion to skin). She seems to do be doing okay, I ran out and got some apple juice and pedialyte, so hopefully these next couple days won't be too bad. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I have heard that gliderade and pedialyte can be used to maximize hydration during episodes of diarrhea. I have my fingers crossed for you! I hope the vet gives her a clean bill of health!

My thoughts are with you and your little one - Good luck on Thursday and after your baby gets a good bill of health please find an emergency vet somewhere near you - you need one just in case - better safe than sorry - My daughter and I just moved to Brandon, FL and I've been going through the phone book finding a vet for our 2 dogs and 1 cat and then one for our 4 gliders and 2 birds - when my income tax comes in I will be making visits to both vets to get a clean bill of health for all of my beloved kiddos Sue owned by

there is an exotic e- vet, just last night she wasn't on duty at the animal hospital, just my luck right? but she's been doing well, i've been giving her some pedialyte every so often and doing the tent test, she and my other suggie are both hydrated. She's alert when I wake her, maybe not to happy about it but so far no other serious problems, thank God!
