I went in at 3:30am and checked, everyone was fine, where they were supposed to be, except for Mr. Gizmo, who stays in the room when he's out. He'd been visiting everyone. All was fine otherwise, it must have been peaceful or the dog would have woken me up. Well at 8:00 someone was barking, they know I go and check when I hear barking, so they were calling me, something was wrong. I go in and Sweet Pea is gone. Normally, she likes to go in a little corner that's empty but I can't get to her because there's a chair there, she wasn't there, she wasn't anywhere and she wasn't making any noises. I start panicking, lock the dog up, put the other one out and look again, all over, the room, the rest of the house, call my husband, he says look under the bed where shortie likes to hide his toys, so with a heavy heart and tears I do, THANKFULLY, nothing, but more tears, I keep looking, put shortie out, and just turn everything off, no noise and go into the laundry room. We have a little area where the furnace and water heater are that we use for storage. I called her and heard movement, praying she and her babies are ok, I keep calling trying to guide her out of the mess. She finally comes up at the sewing table, at the back of course where I can't reach her! But, after a few seconds of cuddling, is none the worse for her adventure and wants to explore some more! I think had the dogs not been there, (I think she was trying to circumvent them) she was trying to get to me, and would have come straight to me, but with them there, she couldn't. Thankfully, she's fine, and her cage is locked up tight as is Gizmo's. These escapes are heartstopping, they are determined to find a way out! Thankfully, they're bonded enough to come find me, for the most part or smart enough to stay put in their room, which is pretty safe, it was finished with them in mind. Check your cages, make sure, especially in a new one that they can't get out, if in doubt, do something to lock it. I find that clothespins work and give them something to chew on, I use both the plastic and wooden ones. I also use zipties, and twist ties, and they don't chew on those. I think we are going to go thru and zip tie/twist tie, somehow lock every avenue, and I've been double checking that I got doors closed all the way, until last night, we'd been doing pretty good. I thought she was gone and I was heartbroken. Thankfully she's fine. Chey

omg - Sweet Pea "MIA" - that's just too much! I know you must have been, well, an absolute mess! Thank goodness all is well - Chey, I don't think we could have handled any other outcome! Kiss 'em for me and give Sweeet Pea an extra hug - whew, that was a close one!

Thanks Charlee! Yeah, I was a mess, especially looking under the bed! I didn't want to, but knew I had to. I was never so thankful as when I heard that noise that said she was in there! I just knew she was gone, the end, it was over for her, and I was heartbroken, so when I found her I was so relieved! She's gotten lot's of luvin today and tonite! Like she needs any more spoiling! how scary.. at least she was clever enough to avoid the dogs. It's so nice to hear that when a 'glider escapes, it will come and find its bonded owner for safety.. heh, I breathed a sign of relief when I got to the end of your post! Of course, it's much better that they DON'T get out.. you can just imagine them whistling 'the great escape' as they squirm, somehow, out of their cages.

Chey, my heart was pounding there, along with yours! I'm so glad Sweet Pea was found safe and sound. Thanks for the reminder of keeping our cages secure. Each time I get complacent and think mine is locked tight, they seem to prove me wrong. They are pretty clever little rascals!

Has anybody tried a combination lock? I wonder how long it would take them to figure out the combination. I'm afraid they'd use their claws to pick a key lock.

Do you know what I tell people? I tell them, my house is just like I have kids. My dogs are like babies. Their attention span is about 5 minutes. If you can distract them, you're pretty much ok. My cats are my grungy, aloof, ever hungry teenagers, They constantly keep me on my toes, opening all my cupboards, removing all my comforters, etc. And lastly, my gliders are the middle school years. Just young enough to still be sweet, just awkward enough to be funny, just genuine enough to be loveable, and just smart enough to keep me guessing. What do you guys think? Does it work? I think so!
