Good sign is he is eating.

Check between the drawers of the dressers. Is it possible he is sleeping in your clothing in the closet?

What about putting his food in a deep kitchen trash can? Stack things up so He can climb in to eat...but afterwards he will be unable to get out.

In the meantime...check out the diet forum. diet of choice here on Glider Central is the BML diet plan. Here is a link for it. www.sugargliderinfo.com/NutritionandDiets/leadbeat.html

I am sorry you're going through this Guen, but just hang in there! Have you seen any droppings? What about when checking spaces, are there several droppings anywhere? This might clue you in to where he is going to/from. At this point, I think I would remove every clothing type item from the room one by one after checking it. If you have a baby gate, put that in the doorway while doing this, or refold each item after checking and remove the basket...

Good luck!!!

Don't give up on the little guy.. he's helpless without you. Giving up is like giving up on a small, scared child stuck in a building, too afraid to come out to the giants. This might be a bit of a graphic image, but it's not far from the truth, as far as your little Bear is concerned.

Don't give up on the little guy. Keep trying with the traps, and putting food into them. He'll get hungry.
You could even try fabricating your own traps, as suggested.. something that falls upright when he climbs into it, but is too high for him to clamber out of. I know it must be frustrating, but don't just give up.

It's a shame there's no one on the forum here that would be able to take a trip to your house and try some of their tricks to capture Bear.. we have quite a few veterans when it comes to escaping gliders here.

I agree with Shaz. Where do you live? I would come if you lived in my area. Definatly try the sounds of the gliders. Mine always come to that. Do it at night when all is quiet. He will come out to check it out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

Try setting his cage up in your room leaving a few doors in the cage open. Put his food, sleeping pouch, a couple little towels, and water in there. Most likely you'll find him in the cage by the second night. Good luck.

Thank you to everyone that has posted. I am sorry not to have been posting. I had internet troubles and then went away for the Labor Day holiday.

I still haven't caught Bear. The grapes, etc. I have been leaving out will occasionally be eaten and the food in the trap will be eaten but the trap not sprung. I have tried the pouch and making the cage look comfy and even making a nesting place for him to sleep near where I suspect him to be. My husband and I played glider sounds all night for several nights. I am not hearing him now like I was. I am basically distraught but after being gone so long, I am not sure he will come back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. If he got down under the house, I am sure he is gone <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. I haven't given up on him but at the same time, I think I have done about all I can do.

I am in Alabama.

Guen

OK, this is drastic, but I am sure you want to do absolutely everything you can. During the day, carefully remove everything from the room after being absolutely certain that he is not hiding in it. I mean everything. Start with the small thinks and work your way to the furniture as if you were moving. When your floors are completely bare you should be able to see his droppings, or maybe find a hole he could have gotten out of. Then put out food at night and wait with a dog or cat on a leash. I have used my cat to find loose gliders before and she is much faster at it than I am. Have a towel on hand to throw over him and grab him. Hold him tight and put the whole bundle in his cage. If I went to all that trouble and still couldn't find my babies, I would be satisfied that I had tried everything. I hope you find him.

I know how hard it is when you loose a little one. When I first started, two of mine got out and I thought the world was going to end. I searched and searched. I finally did the empty the room idea. They were hidden in a small hole in my wall. I thought that I was going to die. Don't give up. Keep looking and listening. Stay up at night in the quiet room with a box being held up by a stick. When he is inside the box with his food under it. Pull the string. It is worth a try.
Good luck and we are thinking about you and your little one.

[:"darkviolet"]Gosh, I can't believe he's still gone.
When was the last time you noticed some food had been eaten?

Have you tried putting food in a drawstring pouch?
When/If he goes in it would close up- he could get out if
he wanted to, but hopefuly he wouldn't want to.

Another thing that comes to mind...
Put down a vinyl shower curtain with food in the center.
Sprinkle something all over the curtain that would show
foot prints- (1st thing that comes to my mind is chinchilla dust)
Maybe then you could see where he is retreating to?

This has to be devastating.
I'm so sorry,
Dawnna[/]

Empy your room, and if you still can't find him, you say you have a tent, well, put his fave foods in the tent and open the tent just a little bit. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can hear their little nails when they are in the tent, can't you? When he is in the tent, quietly walk over and zip the door shut, and Voila! you've got him! It's gotta work! Give it a shot and don't give up!

Ok
Whenever I lose one, I turn off every light and become completely still. Wait until about 11 at night. A lot of time has past. I wish I had seen this post earlier to give the suggestions of turning out all the lights. Gliders can Squeeze under small spaces under doors that you wouldn't think they could fit under.

Guys.. I hate to say it, but judging from her last post it seems all is lost. As Sheila said, a LOT of time has passed from when Bear originally went missing. They don't know what to do anymore and had pretty much given up on him and hope, and Bear has gone very quiet. It's heartbreaking, but to be honest it sounds as though Bear might have passed on. Don't hold your breath... I doubt she'll be back.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I stand corrected: she's now advertising for a new joey in the Ads section. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />
