Going away for a night...

Now, this isn't an immediate plan, but... just as my significant other and I are trying to plan a trip somewhere. Now,
From our plans thus far, we would leave around 4. Fine, my gliders wake up at 6, I'd feed them before we left. However, from our plans, there is a chance that we wouldn't get home until 9 or 10 the next night. This would mean that their left overs would be left in the cage, and would still be there when they woke up. (I have heard it said that food that's left out could make them sick, and I've heard it said that food would need to be left out for much longer to affect them) It would also mean that they would need to wait for a few hours after waking to get fresh food.
How would you deal with that? Have someone come in and feed them the next day, or...?
I am pretty sure that having a glider sitter is the best solution, but..for the sake of conversation.

My neighbors are not exactly the sort that I would trust in my house, unfortunately.

Do you think you may be able to put in treats that would take care of them until you get home? Also do you have a staple food? Like a pellet food (I konw it is not good to use on a daily basis) but it would surfice for a few hours I would think.

Well, my main concern is not them having to wait for a few hours for food, but rather having the old food in there for so long.
But anyway, no, I don't feed any pelleted foods, nor do I have any on hand.

Do your gliders eat all their food every night? If they did, then you wouldn't have to worry about them eating the old food. Feeding them later would probably be ok, you'd just have to feed them as soon as you got home. I wish I could do more to help you out...

You can always leave multiple water bottles in their cage if you do leave them...

They don't eat all of their food every night, no. There is always a little bit of everything left behind. As for water bottles, I keep 3 in the cage at all times, at different levels. I, personally, do not take my gliders everywhere with me as mine seem to stress when I do, and I don't feel that it is completely safe (Monk can push open bonding pouches, and if she did manage to do that and escape, there is a chance that I wouldn't be able to get her in a public place. I also worry about the possibility of escapees from a travel cage in a place that is not familiar to me...so, they don't come unless there is no other way around it). Especially not for where we'll be going -- camping under the stars (no tent, no camper) and swimming near a beautiful (small) water fall...as soon as the weather gets warm.

mine would be the first to get away too. they are not that bonded. but i make sure the small cage i use for the care is 100 percent secure and they cant get out i zip tie the doors then i have larger cages for when i get to where im going and transfer them to them they stress a little but are fine on all the trips. i dont use a pouch on any trip i usually travel at night when they are up so in the small 1 ft by 1 ft cage has a wheel in it and they are running in it while im driving. i also leave melon in the cage for food.

could you freeze some fruits and stuff so maybe they would staff fresher in the cage longer? maybe set them out right before leaving? im not sure how long they would last, but its a thought I wonder if that would help..? I always have frozen fruits and veggies.. and the mix is of course frozen. Hmm...

People these days get kind of paranoid but your food shouldn't spoil in just one day out, except possibly fresh meats. I make a variation of Candy's Blended diet #3 but without the baby food. I substitute in more HPW and bee pollen and add in some papaya with a dash of yogurt. Fruits and vegetables will not spoil outside in a day or two -- suggies don't have refrigerators in the wild. The main thing you have to worry about with food being out in open is airborne bacteria but that concern should be fairly minimal if you use a glider kitchen. I'd leave some frozen as well as fresh fruits and veggies, double portions.

I think you would be okay leaving the food in there until you get back. If it were 48 hours, I would say you would need someone to feed them for you, but you're only going to be gone just over 24 hours. I also would not add any dry pelleted food that they aren't used to getting.
