Some of my gliders are getting slightly fluffy. For years I have kept them lean and mean on BML, but my wife has acquired a recent interest in them.

I feed them at night and my wife feed the parrots in the morning. The gliders say to my wife while she is preparing the parrot’s produce in the morning: “He is starving us…must eat or perish…cough…acckkk…gasp…last breath.” They totally ham it up for her. She then slips them some of the parrots produce. Now, she is used to feeding the largest of macaws and cockatoos, so she thinks she is just slipping them a bit, but for the gliders it is proving to be too much for their tiny little tummies.

Now, I am happy that the warden has taken some interest in the gliders. When, I confront her, she denies the feedings. When I confront the gliders, they deny their discussions with my wife. She does not feed all the cages, so I never know which ones she has fed on any given morning. Should I cut back a percentage on produce? How much of a percent? How do I maintain a nutritional balance? Do I have the only talking gliders? Should I get divorced?

Thank You,

Jeff

OMG thats just to funny...tell her if she is going to feed them to only give it as a treat maybe 1 item per glider...Treats don't hurt as long as she does not over do it and as for them talking mine do to (evil laugh) or so i tell my husband don't get a divorce cause she could fight for them and win then how fluffy would they be..??? I just love how some people's imagination works it's AWSOME

Just be grateful they are only getting produce! My talking gliders somehow end up with sweet/fatty treats. I always suspected there was a flaw in the theory that veggies make you lean and mean! roflmao

You are correct. I believe my wife feels that more produce cannot hurt. It does!

I have read posts on here about people over feeding, because their gliders act like they are starving. Many animals in captivity learn to con us for extra food. I have noticed people tend to overfeed on this site. However, I have yet to see an underfed glider owned by a Glidercentral member, except sick gliders.

Please post pics of your extra skinny gliders! I will bet we do not see many.

Long live the fluffy glider!

Jeff

Well, Jeff... I do have a very lean glider. Her name is Luna and she is housed with her parents. Luna is a svelte 72 grams, no matter what I do. Bittah, her mother, is a healthy 92 grams. Pepe, her father, is a fluffy 178 grams blush Since Luna is actually the alpha glider in the cage, I know that she gets plenty to eat. So, here's Luna's picture for you as proof that SOME GC gliders are NOT fluffy roflmao

Awww Suz, she is adorable! I just love the non-fluffies. Let's see pictures of some more svelte gliders. If I see 5 pictures I will admit that there are at least a small percentage of non-fluffies! lol

I did ask for it!

I would classify most of these gliders as healthy low end average weight. However, it is nice seeing svelte gliders. What diet do you guys feed them?

I also have a house-full of svelte gliders! I'll have to get you some updated pics and weights. Of my 13 gliders, I have two who are fluffy, two who are on the large side of healthy, and 9 who seem to weigh a perfect amount for their frames.

Interestingly, my two fluffy gliders are brother and sister (from different litters, same parents) and are in the "fluffy" white face line. However, the joey of one of them is NOT fluffy.

My 8 gliders often con my husband into thinking I am starving them after I have gone to bed at night. I wake up wondering why they hardly ate their "food" and realize later it was "who needs food when we talked Daddy into giving us mealies and yogies?"

I will have to weigh my babies to give you accurate weights, but despite the "extras" I only have 3 "fluffy" gliders and the remainder appear to be nice, normal weights.

my gliders con me and I am the one that does all the feeding.
Right now they are all in my bedroom because of rearranging for recent houseguests.
They beg for treats everytime I come in the room but the worst is in the morning. Once they hear that alarm go off...............they are now conditioned to wait for me to turn on the light...............and they are all on the front of the cages begging for thier morning mealies.

mine are svelte... but not for lack of my trying to PUFF them up! i always think theyre to thin, and they DESTROY the food in the cage, but a lot of times leave lots (left until i got their new cage) of fruits and veggies! now with more space they seem to eat everything. weird little critters! i love all the pics of babies you got going here jeff, and thats TOOOOOOO funny about your wife!

Oh Lord. Mine DO talk to me. They talk to my kids, but my kids don't listen as much.

But - when they hear or see someone move the mealie bin ... you'd swear they are completely tortured at all times.

Jeff, I have a very slim female for you. Mausi has always been petite (it's hard to keep her over 80 grams!). Her mom is petite, her sisters are thin... so it runs in the family. She gets all the food she can eat plus booster milk and acacia gum.

Here she is:

Oh, and mine even have the gall to talk to visiting family members! My aunt made a visit some time ago and she was really interested in the gliders. I showed her how I fed them, and she loved how they would take mealies right out of your fingers.... well, they must have whispered in her ear, because that night I got up to go to the bathroom and there she was, handing mealies through the cage bars like someone would slip a homemade pie to inmates!
