i have a 520 rept, and dont want to tear up the covers washing them every few days! i bought a small handheld steamer to clean it, and that works okay, and i wipe the pvc with windex (the natural kind with vinegar)... does anyone spray their cage with febreeze or anything? or like vinegar water? would they mark up MORE if i sprayed it??? just wondering, id hate to have to get a new cover in just a few months, and its a HUGE pain to take off/put on! any advice would be awesome! and thanks in advance!

I would say that wiping it down with a vinegar and water solution on a regular basis would take care of the smell. I would not use any type of spray that is not animal safe. Sprays will only mask the odor for a short period of time, so I feel it's not worth the expense.

How about that Citrus Magic from walmart. It is a Natural pet oder eliminator. It says it is safe to use directly on your pets. I wouldnt go to that extent but putting it on the rep might be fine. What does everyone think.

The enzymes in white vinegar will break down urine and poop.

I agree with the vinegar. I'd love to see a picture of a Rept that big.

Usually my steamer removes smells.

theres a few pics for you, not very good ones. im having a girlfriend come tomorrow to make LOTS of stuff for it! so ill post some more... i will definatly try the vinegar!!! thanks so much everyone! (maybe that would also help to smeared poo they put in the mesh! lol)
and i have a handheld steamer i use, it helps a lot, but it stills smells funny! the febreeze worked awesome on the smell, but if vin. is safer, ill use it!!!

Try mixing 25% vinegar and a 75% hot water to spray on the rept about 5 minutes before you steam. Then steam away. Works wonders, I just tried this over the weekend, since I just got my steam machine last week. But it smells so much better!!
